Middleton Place National Historic Landmark-
Middleton Place is a historic rice plantation located along the Ashley River in Charleston. Once home to a signer of the Declaration of Independence as well as hundreds of enslaved people, today Middleton Place is a National Historic Landmark featuring America's Oldest Landscaped Gardens, a historic house, and stableyards where we tell the stories of those who once lived and labored here. Their stories are a microcosm of American history.
Position Summary-
The Director of Education at Middleton Place Foundation will lead and develop educational programs and initiatives for the Foundation. This role will focus on providing impactful learning experiences for diverse audiences, fostering partnerships with schools and colleges, and advancing Middleton Place’s educational mission.
Reports to : Vice President of Museums FLSA Status : Exempt
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Education or Public History
- Minimum of 5 years in museums or cultural site education with at least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role
- Proven experience in developing, delivering, and evaluating educational programs for diverse audiences
- Strong knowledge of historical and cultural interpretation methods and best practices
- Strong knowledge of Lowcountry history, with a focus on African American history
- Demonstrated ability to engage and inspire learners of all ages and backgrounds
- Experience in developing and teaching education and interpretive programs
- Strong public speaking ability and excellent presentation skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team. A creative self-starter who is well organized, detail oriented and able to multi task.
