Job Title: SLAMS Teacher
Location: Wesley Elementary School or Beman Middle School
Broad Function:
The Summer Literacy Academy Teacher, reporting to the SLAMS Coordinator, will plan and implement Interdisciplinary Literacy instruction including Science, Social Studies, & Math for students entering grades 3-5 or 6-8.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Develop lessons for students using the Interdisciplinary Literacy model;
Plan, implement, and assess Project Based Learning units;
Provide students with the opportunity to express their learning through personalized activities.
Supervise students during daily breakfast, lunch, arrival, and dismissal transition;
Collect and analyze student data;
Communicate progress of students to their family on an ongoing basis throughout program;
Promote positive behavior during all activities and transitions;
Assist Academy Coordinator in morning drop off and afternoon transition;
Manage behavior issues/concerns in accordance with established behavior policies;
Other duties as assigned by the SLAMS Coordinator
Compensation:
$31.93 per hour (certified rate)
Schedule:
Pre-academy professional development, planning, & room preparations, June 24 & 25, 2025.
SLAMS will be 4 weeks, July 8th-August 2nd, Monday-Thursday, 8:30a-3:30p
Qualifications:
CT Teaching Certification;
Demonstrated ability to motivate and engage students in learning activities;
Instructional proficiency in literacy area required;
Knowledge and experience with the Connecticut Core Standards in ELA, and differentiated instructional teaching strategies required;
Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills;
Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills with individuals, teams and groups (teachers, parents, administrators and support staff);
First Aid/CPR Certification Preferred.
