Middletown Christian Schools is looking for a Campus Finance Director who embraces our vision, mission, and core values. A person who seeks this position should be one who is convinced that God has called him/her to the ministry. The school finance director will manage all business and finance -related activities for the school.

Required Professional Qualities:
- Hold a bachelor’s degree in business/accounting from an accredited postsecondary institution.
- Have a notary republic commission or obtain one within a reasonable time period.
- Have knowledge and understanding of the business side of non-profit organizations and have the organizational skills and ability to work with people, projects, and resources.
- Demonstrate an advanced level of computer literacy, being proficient in data analysis, spreadsheet and accounting software, and database management.
Required Personal Qualities:
- Possess the necessary customer service and public relation skills to market the school to potential families and the general public.
- Have knowledge of office procedures and methods, including those related to social communications skills and proper office etiquette.
- Meet everyday stress with emotional stability, objectivity, and optimism.

Essential Job Functions:
Spiritual Leadership
- Integrate Biblical principles and the Christian worldview throughout the workplace.
Academic Leadership
- Participate in continuous professional development through professional reading, college coursework, in-services, workshops, and/ or conferences.
Administrative Leadership
- Supervise and manage the school finance office and staff. Have the ability to supervise and evaluate others, enforce policies, follow prescribed procedures, make timely and difficult decisions, and communicate those decisions.
- Oversee the maintenance of up-to-date and accurate computerized records for all financial transactions.
Departmental Responsibilities:
General Duties
- Maintain all financial records and financial dealings of the school.
- Maintain a requisition/purchase order system.
- Supervise all maintenance of appropriate financial records and procedures for any and all extracurricular activities.
- Direct and manage all donations to the school. Maintain an effective record and acknowledgement system of donations in conjunction with the advancement office.
Budget
- Prepare, in collaboration with school administration and MCS Finance Committee, the annual income and expense budget for school board approval.
- Advise the school administration and school board of actual spending compared to the approved budget.
- Advise the school administration of trends in receipts and disbursements.
- Prepare long-term budget projections to assist with school board and administration in long-term planning for the school.
Disbursements
- Authorize all financial disbursements within budget and financial restraints.
- Negotiate contracted services/leases/purchases with vendors.
- Maintain relationships with vendors.
Receipts
- Oversee billing of all charges and collection on accounts.
- Authorize payment arrangements for overdue accounts.
- Authorize finance charges to be written off.
- Notify those whose accounts are past due and assess late fees.
- Maintain a list of past-due accounts, and keep school administration appraised.
Banking
- Maintain a favorable banking relationship. Negotiate all banking transactions.
- Invest excess cash in accordance with school board policies.
- Negotiate with vendors of credit cards and electronic funds transfers.
- Keep authorized signers for financial accounts/transactions current.
Personnel
- Oversee all payroll functions (including changes in salary/wages and benefit costs).
- Prepare financial and benefit cost information for the school.
- Work in conjunction with the HR department to prepare annual employee contracts and work agreements by researching appropriate and competitive salary scales and benefit packages.
Reports/Meetings
- Provide monthly financial statements to department heads and school board for review.
- Attend school board meetings, when requested.
- Present, with the MCS Finance Committee, the annual budget for the upcoming school year at the January school board meeting.
- Inform MCS Finance Committee about all pertinent issues.
Legal/Audit/Records
- Have final responsibility for the preparation of quarterly and annual IRS forms.
- Work in conjunction with finance office staff to prepare and provide financial statements and all supporting schedules in preparation for the annual compilation/review/audit.
- Account for all restricted contributions consistent with the donors’ instructions.
- Maintain records of fixed assets and depreciation or amortization.
- Maintain a file of all signed contracts.
- Prepare important documents for storage.
Additional Duties or Responsibilities
It is expected that the finance director will:
- Recognize the need for good public relations, and represent the school in a favorable and professional manner to the school’s constituency, local churches, and the general public.
- Assist the school administration and the advancement director in promoting the school.
- Support the broader program of the school by attending extracurricular activities when possible.
Church (GBC) Responsibilities
- This position will be an exempt employee that is paid a stipend.
- Report directly to the Senior Pastor of GBC.
- Work in conjunction with the GBC Finance committee.
Oversight and Responsibilities
Monetarily:
- Review the Weekly Reports from the church office and Trustee reports.
- Review: Weekly income, Weekly Income vs Expenses, Weekly income to budget Bank account balances.
Practically:
- Aid in the unity of the ministries on campus.
- Communicate with the GBC Finance Committee for budgeting purposes.
- Make sure the Trustees are in on the budgeting process.
- GBC Constitution states that the Finance Committee presents the budget before the church. Make sure they are involved.
- Communicate to make sure there is a requisition process in place.
- Engage our accounting firm for compilations/reviews/audits, etc.
- Process payroll twice a month, including approving employee timesheets and submit for payment).
- Keep general oversight over finances, but not oversee employees, or day to day operations.
- Meet with the Finance Committee and church staff as needed.
Additional working conditions may include:
- Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue
- Occasional operation of a vehicle under inclement weather conditions
- Occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull various items up to a maximum of 40 pounds (100 pounds on wheels) such as paper boxes, deliveries of supplies and equipment, etc.
