The Middletown Board of Education is seeking a highly qualified instructional leader for the position of Assistant Principal at Middletown High School (Grades 9-12). This instructional building level administrator will serve as a member of the leadership team of MHS and will be an education administrator responsible for facilitating the day-to-day requirements of their school, ensuring the safety of students, as well as fulfillment of federal and state student and teacher performance guidelines. This leadership position includes interactions with students, teachers, other administrators, board members, and parents. Broad Function:
This instructional building level administrator will serve as a member of the

Responsibilities and Duties:
● Assist with development of a plan for the evaluation and improvement of
instruction to ensure maximum educational benefits for students
● Assist with the selection and assignment of certified and classified
personnel
● Assists with student management and the preparation of the student
master schedule
● Encourage the professional growth of teachers by training, implementation,
and evaluation
● Assist in the development of the School Improvement Plan. Recommends
changes in programming and works with instructional staff in the
improvement of instruction.
● Evaluates teachers and learning materials to determine areas where
improvement is needed. Assesses data such as state standards and test
scores
● Assist in the evaluation of the school program and staff. Analyze and report
on school and student data in a timely manner
● Work cooperatively with peers in sharing ideas, techniques, and procedures
for improvement of the learning environment. Keep abreast of new
information, innovative ideas and techniques. Works with faculty, other
assistant principals to make suggestions, listen, and share experiences
encouraging teacher improvement and motivation within classrooms
● Assist with the development of a functioning education philosophy
consistent with the values of the community, teachers, school
administration, and Board of Education
● Assist with the development of an atmosphere of respect, interest, and
enthusiasm within the school
● Articulates a vision for the academic and social achievement of a diverse
student body
● Actively present in the school, its activities and its day to day activity in
the hallways and classrooms
● Assist with supervision and in providing for the general welfare of students
during the school day, on school trips, and during school activities
● Assist in maintaining effective programs to strengthen and monitor pupil
discipline, attendance, and individual progress.
● Meets with parents to discuss student behavioral or learning
recommendations. Responds to disciplinary issues.
● Assist with the administration of district policies in the operation of the
school. Assist with planning and organizing the school day and year to
provide for efficient operation of the school. Directs special programs to
best meet the needs of students
● Assist with the administration of the school budget and makes effective use
of consultants and specialists in program and staff development.
● Assist in maintaining school records and filing necessary reports. Maintains
systems for attendance, performance, planning, and other reports
● Assist in school compliance with legal and regulatory requirements of the
various governmental agencies
● Communicates the school and district goals to a variety of constituencies
● Communicate openly and effectively with students, community, staff, and
administration
● Provides timely responds to emails from teachers, parents and community
members
● Adhere to all district health and safety standards and policies
● Coordinates transportation for students as needed
● Collaborates with staff and parents to sustain a vibrant school community
● May assist with ordering and approving equipment and supply orders
● Additional duties as assigned by the Principal
Qualifications and Experience:
● CT certified for Intermediate Administrator and Supervisor (092).
● Five (5) years of successful experience as a teacher at the high school level
is preferred
● Experience as school administrator is preferred
● Demonstrated outstanding instructional leadership, with a passion for
innovation and equity
● Well versed in Connecticut Accountability for Learning Initiative (CALI)
● Demonstrated understanding of, experience in, and commitment to the
integration of technology into the curriculum and instruction to facilitate
student learning
● A strong understanding of Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and
interventions
● An outstanding and visible communicator who welcomes interaction with all
members of the school community and community at large
● An ability to foster a positive culture that contributes to the success of all
students and cultivates a professional learning community focused on
outcomes. Experience with restorative practices preferred
● A passion for public education and an ability to embrace the opportunities
and challenges of educating a diverse population
● Strong communication and interpersonal skills
