What are the responsibilities and job description for the Press Technician - 3rd Shift position at Middleville Engineered Solutions LLC?
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
This person must be fully capable of running all presses and support equipment and may be utilized as a fill-in operator at times. Responsible for the reduction of downtime as related to all aspects of the die set-up and changeover processes utilizing MTPS practices. Create, maintain, monitor regularly, and drive improvement of Standardized Work Instructions for die set-up and changeover processes and procedures. Stage dies in designated areas in accordance with the current schedule.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
- Maintain clean and safe working conditions throughout the plant and resolve and / or report any potential risks to safety and health, especially with processes and systems, right away.
- Follow all health and safety standards, including personal protective equipment requirements for the work environment.
- Troubleshoot dies (in presses and on the production floor), applying knowledge to create temporary fixes, when necessary, as well as permanent corrective repairs to maintain / improve machine uptime, insuring proper preparation and storage of dies, as well as proper utilization of the Die Repair List.
- Program, optimize and troubleshoot electrical servo systems.
- Program Smart Pac's and update necessary information within setup instructions and other documentation to formally standardize the programming processes.
- Create and maintain staging areas for dies, and provide technical, production and maintenance support and training, including troubleshooting machinery or equipment such as dies, fingers, presses, sensors, Smart Pac, feed and auxiliary equipment.
- Provide assistance and input when incorporating sensors and other measurement technology into new and existing processes to improve quality and / or productivity.
- Provide assistance and input with engineering improvements for process setups, material handling, storage, layouts, work cells, and any other functions that directly impact the manufacturing performance.
- Use of Plex system to monitor requirements, implement work schedule for area, and report production as directed by the Team Leader.
- Coach new operators and assist them in making decisions about part quality, as well as how to identify and properly tag and label different types of scrap.
- Perform the duties of and assist co-workers with the duties as needed for the positions of Automatic Press Operator, Coil Tech, Hilo Driver duties, as needed to meet MTPS objectives.
- Work with scheduling to insure dies are staged according to latest information.
- Assist as needed on first, last piece and end of run inspection.
- Perform daily end of shift inventories of required tools, bolts, etc. at each press.
- Train all operator on proper procedures and standardized work instructions.
- Participate in continuous improvement, waste reduction activities and standard of clean.
- Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product through team involvement.
- Organize and maintain both personal and team work areas (based on audit scores).
- Communicate optimally to provide accurate, necessary and timely information to all team members.
- Follow all Company policies and procedures, and perform related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION
Equivalent to a high school education with specialized training in MTPS. Leadership, problem solving and harassment training required.
EXPERIENCE
Three (3) to five (5) years die setting experience with ability to operate all presses and associated support equipment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have the ability to lift 50 pounds periodically and 30 pounds regularly. Must have the ability to stand for entire shift.
ERRORS
Errors could result in high monetary losses if machines or dies are damaged. Loss in production requirements due to set-up error could affect the Company's relationship with customers.
COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Must be able to prioritize and stage specific jobs, insure that set-up procedures are adhered to and develop process improvements. Must be conscious of production quality and machine cycles.
CONTACT WITH OTHERS
Must be able to communicate and interface well with Operators and Leaders on a routine basis and be conscious of the effects responsibilities have on other departments.
MENTAL OR VISUAL DEMAND
High mental and visual demand necessary with some manual labor exerted. Must be able to critique Associate's work visually and train through direction.
CONFIDENTIAL DATA
Has access to confidential information related to processes, material, cost, etc. Disclosure is to be avoided to maintain Company's competitive position.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Normal factory environment with good lighting. Average noise level and good housekeeping.
CHARACTER OF SUPERVISION
An intricate part of the Management Team, must follow through with systems and procedures to meet management objectives. Responsible for implementation of above and accountable for deviation from procedures within department.
SCOPE OF SUPERVISION
Minimal direct supervision but may be called upon to supervise press area on an interim basis.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Minimum supervision required. Must be a self-starter, able to take decisive action under unique circumstances, following a definite objective in set-ups requiring the use of a wide range of procedures, referring unusual situations to the Production Supervisor.
