Title: Instructional Assistant (PE Aide)
9-month term (181 days)

Supervise: Students
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or Recognized Equivalent
- One of the following:
o Two years’ post-secondary education (48 semester hours)
o Associate’s Degree on official transcript from accredited institution of higher education
o Work Keys Assessment minimum score of Level 3 on Applied Math, Workplace Documents, and Business Writing.
Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
- Assist the teacher in reinforcing physical education instruction to individual or small groups of students in a physical education classroom or outdoor environment assists in the preparation of instructional materials and implementation of lesson plans.
- Provide support to the teacher by setting up equipment for physical education classes, sports activities; assists in set-up, distributing, collecting and storing physical education and sports equipment.
- Assures the health and safety of students by following established practices and procedures; cleans, maintains and assures physical education equipment is in working condition.
- Administers, scores, and records such achievement and diagnostic tests as the teacher recommends for individual students.
- Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of materials and skills initially introduced by the teacher.
- Assist the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interest, and abilities.
- Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
- Helps students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher.
- Distributes and collects workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction (as applicable).
- Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods and field trips.
- Assists in maintaining appropriate student conduct and disciplinary record keeping.
- Alerts the regular teacher to any problems or special information about an individual student.
- Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set-up and assigned by the teacher.
- Assist the teacher in keeping bulletin boards and other classroom learning displays up-to-date.
- Check notebooks, corrects papers and supervises testing and make-up work, as assigned by the teacher (as applicable)
- Serves as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
- Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers.
- Participates in in-service training programs, as assigned.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Salary: To be determined commensurate with Midfield City School salary matrix, credentials and experience.
Evaluation: The performance of this job be evaluated according to the provisions of the Board policy on personnel evaluation.
