This position will be responsible for coordinating and delivering instruction of credit and non-credit health sciences courses to high school and adult students. Must work within Midland College, Independent School District (ISD), and regulatory agency guidelines. Responsible for coordinating and teaching community-based health sciences courses and related events. Coordinates with part-time instructors in WRTTC health sciences.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree in Nursing
- Must possess or be eligible to obtain a current unencumbered Texas license as a registered nurse (RN)
- Minimum of two years of experience as a nurse with a minimum of one year in a long-term care setting (nursing home)
- Experience teaching adult students or supervising nurse aides
- Proficient in computer skills including the use of Microsoft Word
- Knowledge of general office equipment and equipment related to health care delivery
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population, both orally and in writing
- Interest in working in college and high school settings
- Ability to work effectively as a member of the instructional team
- Must possess a valid Texas Driver License, good driving record, and be insurable on Midland College’s insurance policy
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a health science-related field
- Experience teaching adolescent students
- Experience teaching health science material
- Demonstrated ability to work independently to accomplish organizational goals
- Leadership and supervisory experience
- Bilingual (English and Spanish)
- Fulfill faculty roles and responsibilities as outlined in Midland College Policies and Administrative Regulations and as published in the Employee and Faculty Handbooks
- Coordinate and ensure the quality and currency of educational offerings under his/her supervision
- Ensure that curricula are developed, evaluated, and revised
- Ensure the accuracy of publications related to offerings under his/her supervision
- Identify and request needed instructional resources
- Act as the first point of contact for student issues
- Ensure compliance with requirements of state agencies and accrediting bodies, as applicable
- Teach classes and labs with a lecture equivalent hour (LEH) requirement commensurate with the program curriculum each fall and spring semester
- Summer instruction is required
- Teach credit courses aligned with department needs, professional credentials and experience
- Teach courses to prepare students to become a certified nurse aide (CNA) according to State requirements
- Act as the Nurse Aide Program Director for the WRTTC and comply with duties outlined in Texas Administrative Code TITLE 26, PART 1, CHAPTER 556, RULE §556.5
- Utilize a variety of effective teaching techniques to promote student success within the department
- Ensure that departmental reports of student progress are submitted in a timely manner according to Midland College and ISD guidelines
- Oversee clinical site arrangements, including obtaining and retaining affiliation agreements and verification of student compliance with clinical requirements
- Ensure accessibility of current guidelines, schedules, and syllabi
- Demonstrate respect for the laboratory skills training environment including the care and maintenance of manikins and equipment and stewardship of supplies
- Participate in program review and measurement of student learning outcomes
- Continually improve the quality of instruction by reviewing and utilizing a variety of instructional methodologies
- Maintain effective and timely oral and written communication with members of the department, the Dean of Health Sciences and/or Associate Dean of Health Sciences
- Participate in promotional and recruitment activities at the WRTTC and in area communities
- Work cooperatively with staff and faculty at the WRTTC to promote a positive work environment
- Maintain professional and effective working relationships with ISD personnel
- Promote student success
- Other duties as assigned
- Frequently moves equipment or paperwork weighing up to 25 pounds
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
