The Chemistry Lab Instructor/Coordinator will teach labs, maintain equipment, set up all chemistry labs for all instructors, order supplies and make sure the lab is in compliance with all legal/safety requirements. The Chemistry Lab Instructor/Coordinator will oversee the activities of the lab. Managing the lab is the equivalent of 9 LEH. In addition, 6 LEH of lab instruction will be required for a total load of 15 LEH. A minimum of 10 office hours are required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related field; relevant work experience may be substituted for educational requirement
- Knowledge of use and care of standard chemistry lab equipment
- Minimum of two years of experience working with waste disposal, use, and care of standard equipment, and use or repair of analytical instrumentation in a chemistry laboratory
- Teaching experience
- Ability to work on equipment to solve simple problems
- Managing labs/teaching labs for a minimum of 15 LEH each week
- Maintain and calibrate all laboratory equipment
- Assist with the development of laboratory curriculum
- Assist with the selection of laboratory manuals and supplementary materials
- Introduction, in the form of a lecture, of new concepts not covered by a lecture instructor
- Development of and administration of test material for each lab
- Maintain a grade book for lab grades and attendance records
- Training and coordinating the activities of part-time laboratory staff
- Maintain a safe laboratory environment, including implementation of all applicable state and federal safety standards
- Set up, budget, purchase, and maintain the inventory of supplies of all durable and disposable laboratory equipment, chemicals, and specimen
- Active participation in community service activities and Midland College student activities
- Other duties as assigned
- Must be able to bend, reach overhead, and lift/move equipment in excess of 25 pounds
- Ability to move easily within the lab
- The person in this position frequently communicates with others verbally and electronically; must be able to exchange accurate information
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus

Min Salary $50,277 per year Max Salary $54,803 per year Pay Statement Salary is commensurate with educational qualifications and experience.
