Job Description

 

The LVN, with a focus on patient safety, is required to function within the parameters of the legal scope of practice and in accordance with the federal, state, and local laws; rules and regulations; and policies, procedures and guidelines of the employing health care institution or practice setting. The LVN functions under his or her own license and assumes accountability and responsibility for quality of care provided to patients and their families according to the standards of nursing practice.7 The LVN demonstrates responsibility forcontinued competence in nursing practice, and develops insight through reflection, self-analysis, self-care, and lifelong learning. This LVN, in a non-primary care nurse role, will meet the needs of patients (inpatient or outpatient) requiring education, assistance, and/or guidance related to lactation. The LVN will act as a surgical technologist to serve as an integral part of the team of medical practitioners providing surgical care to patients. The LVN will work under the supervision of a circulating RN and/or physician to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety.

 

SHIFT AND SCHEDULE

Full Time

7:00 PM - 7:00 AM

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

· Complete a comprehensive assessment. This includes the ongoing, extensive collection, analysis and interpretation of data.

· Synthesize the data collected during the comprehensive assessment to identify problems, and to formulate goals, teaching plans and outcomes in collaboration with primary RN.

· The LVN may begin and deliver interventions within the plan of care for patients within legal, ethical, and regulatory parameters and in consideration of health restoration, disease prevention, wellness, and promotion of healthy lifestyles.

· Evaluate and report patient outcomes and responses to therapeutic interventions in comparison to benchmarks from evidence-based practice and research findings, and plans any follow-up care and referrals to appropriate resources that may be needed.· Makes appropriate decisions in collaboration with the primary care RN· Ability to assess, project and plan for procedural needs· Possess expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique.· Combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance of safe patient outcomes.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

· Current Texas Licensed Vocational Nursing license required.· NRP and ACLS required within 6 months of hire.· Ability to assess, project and plan for procedural needs· Possess expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique.· Combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementationtools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive therapeutic anddiagnostic procedures.· Required to completed (3) hours of hospital provided continuing education upon hire andannually for Advanced Sterile Processing Certification. Education will focus on thehandling of soiled instrumentation at the point of use and storage of instrumentation forsterile processing department pick-up.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

· Stand, walk, sit, stoop, reach, lift, see, speak and hear. Lifting is limited to 35 lbs. for clinical staff and to 50 lbs. for non-clinical staff. The individual must use an assisted-lift device or get another individual(s) to assist with the lift that is over these maximum limits.
