Job Description
The RN, with a focus on patient safety, is required to function within theparameters of the legal scope of practice and in accordance with the federal, state, and local laws; rulesand regulations; and policies, procedures and guidelines of the employing health care institution orpractice setting. The RN functions under his or her own license and assumes accountability andresponsibility for quality of care provided to patients and their families according to the standards ofnursing practice. The RN demonstrates responsibility for continued competence in nursing practice,and develops insight through reflection, self-analysis, self-care, and lifelong learning.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS• Complete a comprehensive assessment. This includes the initial and ongoing, extensivecollection, analysis and interpretation of data.• Synthesize the data collected during the comprehensive assessment to identify problems, makenursing diagnoses, and to formulate goals, teaching plans and outcomes. • Implement the plan of care. The RN may begin, deliver, assign or delegate certain interventionswithin the plan of care for patients within legal, ethical, and regulatory parameters and inconsideration of health restoration, disease prevention, wellness, and promotion of healthylifestyles.• Evaluate and report patient outcomes and responses to therapeutic interventions in comparison tobenchmarks from evidence-based practice and research findings, and plans any follow-up careand referrals to appropriate resources that may be needed.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE• An associate’s degree (ADN) or diploma in nursing is required. A Bachelor of Science inNursing (BSN) degree is preferred. Our aim is that MMH nurses are prepared at the BSNlevel. We are committed to support your pursuit of a BSN education. A BSN and certificationin clinical area of expertise will be required to advance within the clinical nurse professionalpractice ladder.• Current State of Texas License as a Registered Nurse •Certification in area of specialty (e.g., CEN, CPEN, CCRN, CNOR) preferred• ACLS, PALS or ENPC, and TNCC required within 12 months of date of employment to bescheduled in the ED. ACLS required within 6 months to be scheduled in CCU or PACU areas.• Required to complete eight (8) hours of hospital provided continuing education hours upon hireand annually for Total Joint and Spine. Education will focus on management/care of total hip,knee and shoulder replacement as well as elective spine surgery patients.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential responsibilitysatisfactorily.
