Job description
The responsibilities of the service technician will include, but are not limited to, servicing and maintaining automatic, semi-automatic packaging, and material handling equipment. Conducting initial equipment set-up, training, part recommendations, while working at current customer accounts. The service technician will work closely with the sales force and assist on sales calls when needed. The service tech will be covering the St. Louis and southwestern Illinois territories as well as southern Iowa and the Kansas City Area.
The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of experience in the electrical/mechanical industry with packaging equipment background. Additional skills will include being detail oriented, customer oriented, and have excellent communication skills. Local travel within 4-5 hour radius is required most of the time. Up to 10-15% overnight travel at times. Company vehicle provided.
Essential Functions Statement
- Disassemble machinery and equipment to remove parts and make repairs.
- Repair and replace broken or malfunctioning components of machinery and equipment.
- Repair and maintain the operating condition of industrial production and processing machinery and equipment.
- Examine parts for defects such as breakage and excessive wear.
- Reassemble equipment after completion of inspections, testing, or repairs.
- Observe and test the operation of machinery and equipment in order to diagnose malfunctions, using voltmeters and other testing devices.
- Operate newly repaired machinery and equipment to verify the adequacy of repairs.
- Clean, lubricate, and adjust parts, equipment, and machinery.
- Analyze test results, machine error messages, and information obtained from operators in order to diagnose equipment problems.
- Record repairs and maintenance performed.
- Study blueprints and manufacturers' manuals to determine correct installation and operation of machinery.
- Record parts and materials used, and order or requisition new parts and materials as necessary.
- Demonstrate equipment functions and features to machine operators.
- Install new equipment as needed.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
- High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED): Required
- Experience: 3 plus years of experience
- Computer Skills: Beginner Microsoft Office Proficient in equipment programming
- Certifications & Licenses: Certifications required based on machinery specifications.
- Other Requirements: Must have a basic understanding of electrical and pneumatic troubleshooting.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Vision (Near, Distance, Color, Peripheral, Depth)
- Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) - Safety shoes, safety glasses
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Warehouse environment subject to weather conditions.
- Car travel 50% of the time and subject to road conditions based on weather and traffic.
