Position Summary
This role provides customer service, processing business and individual banking transactions; manages a cash drawer, cross-sells bank services. The teller is responsible for comprehensive, prompt and efficient customer transactions. They must trial balance cash drawers throughout the day, balance and roll the drawer at close of shift, comparing the balance to the system balance and report any discrepancies to the supervisor as necessary.
Key Responsibilities
- Institutional knowledge of banking principles and practices.
- Receive cash and checks for deposit, verifying amounts, examining endorsements and reviewing checks for possible fraud including holds.
- Examine cash carefully to guard against counterfeit bills.
- Cash checks for customers in accordance with bank policy, enter transactions into the computer system and issue receipts.
- Assist customers with transactions and ATM operations.
- Provide accurate customer service, balancing cash drawers throughout the day to reduce and eliminate teller differences.
- Understand basic knowledge of deposit and lending products & services.
- Able to identify correct product types through needs-based questioning, allowing them to build and deepen customer relationships.
- Consistently demonstrate knowledge of bank products and services by referring products and services to corresponding business partners, assisting customers on electronic services and entering opportunities into the customer information software.
- Serve as relief and/or backup teller in other locations of Midland States Bank.
- Timely completion of all assigned learning activities.
- Actively participate in weekly huddles and one-on-one coaching sessions.
- Demonstrate and model Midland States Bank core values that support the bank's culture.
- Participate in bank-sponsored community activities.
- The role requires occasional travel for training and team meetings, and willingness to travel periodically to locations within the market as needed.
- Maintain compliance with all applicable regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA).
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift and transport coin and currency bags as required (bags may weigh between 25lbs and 50lbs).
