Job Title:

Registered Nurse

Purpose Statement:

Providing quality care for the patient and being accessible to the patient.

Supervision received:

Co-reporting responsibilities with providers and the practice administrators.

Supervision exercised:

May assign task to the phone nurse during busy hours of the day if needed.

Essential duties:

1. Using nursing knowledge within the scope of the individual nurse to fulfill the duties.

2. Rooming patient, reviewing all history, and medication reconciliation.

3. Providing all information to the provider of the reason for visit.

4. Making sure that all specialist reports or testing is scanned into the chart and is available for provider to review.

5. Keep in direct communication with provider and patient about healthcare.

6. Using critical thinking when assessing patient chart and lab values.

7. Keeping preventative measures up to date.

8. Give medications and injections that are ordered by provider.

9. Working with providers to help identify the need for Chronic Care Management.

10. Helping with prior authorization and medication refills.

11. Correlating medications with necessary lab test and the need for follow up appointments.

12. Risk stratifying patient by using the AAFP guidelines.

13. Attending all office meetings and group huddles.

14. Gathers preliminary examination information and data from patients before the doctor arrives such as height, weight, and blood pressure measurements and preforms any preliminary preparation such as surgical prep.

15. Make sure all test results that the provider will need to examine are available before the provider enters the examination room. This includes lab test results, reports from other physicians, reports from the hospital, ect.

16. Think carefully about each patient visit, anticipating what the care provider may need during the visit. Completes all preparation as needed before the provider enters the room, facilitating the flow of the visit.

17. Complete patient care checklist forms for newborn care, diabetic templates, protime flow record and OB visit, ect.

18. Carefully reviews the type of medication and dosage before administering any shot or medication. Ask provider clarification questions if there is any doubt whatsoever.

19. Keep on top of prescription refill requests and phone calls.

20. Cleans and sterilizes instruments as required.

21. Thoroughly documents and updates information in patient’s charts as required.

22. Initials and dates all entries to patient chart.

23. Reviews dates on medications on a regular basis and properly disposes of expired medications.

24. Keep eye on supply levels and informs Kris Downing of ordering supplies if inventory is getting low.

25. Promptly notifies provider of situations that present an unacceptable risk to patients.

26. Maintains nursing license and CPR certification.

27. Carefully assists patient with a caring and warm manner.

28. Keep exam rooms and work area neat, clean and orderly.

29. Maintain regular, prompt, reliable attendance at the office, as scheduled.

Education:

Current LPN or RN License

Experience:

None Required

Requirements:

1. Must be able to move quickly and stand on feet most of the day.

2. Occasional lifting of boxes of supplies, assisting patient in and out of the wheelchair and on exam table. No lifting of patients in office.

3. Uses proper technique when assisting with patient transfers.

4. Manual dexterity sufficient to operate medical equipment, telephone, computer software, and other office equipment.

5. Make patients feel important and that they are cared about.

6. Can identify nursing areas in the office that need improvement and can work on these with supervisor.

7. Must be precise and detail oriented, make few errors, and pay close attention to the work being performed.

8. Must be able to perform all work in a quick, accurate, and timely manner.

9. Find replacement nursing help when gone, outside of regular scheduled working hours, and indicate this on calendar.

Skills:

1. Exercises and uses good judgment.

2. Can quickly, easily and accurately calculate dosages of medications.

3. Excellent phone skills including professionalism, courtesy, and accurate message taking.

4. Can operate medical equipment, computer, applicable section of practice management software, photocopy machine, and fax machine.

5. Can identify area in nursing department that need improvement and can work on these with supervisors.

6. Quickly develops needed medical terminology and vocabulary.

Abilities:

1. Able to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions.

2. Can give injections.

3. Able to accurately document and update patient information in medical record.

4. Able to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with employees, patients, and suppliers.

5. Is teachable and has a desire to continuously learn about the field of nursing.

6. Able to know when questions should be asked and does so to be sure things are done correctly.

7. Able to handle frequent stress from immediate demands and during peak periods.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $17.50 - $22.00 per hour
