Assists in the installation, repair and troubleshooting of network cabling and devices, including but not limited to CAT6 and fiber optic cabling and jacks, telephones, wireless access points, security cameras, and emergency call boxes. Assists in the installation of equipment for network closets and data centers, including switches, routers, and servers. Performs adds, moves, and changes as necessary for any cabling and associated equipment on any of the seven campuses. Assists network administrators and engineers with network documentation, configuration, and deployments. Performs other duties as necessary.

This position is located on the Midlands Technical College Beltline Campus in the Information Resource Management department.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
Associate degree in computer science, computer technology, or related field and two years’ experience in troubleshooting of network infrastructure, cabling, and equipment; or a high school diploma and four years’ experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of network cabling standards and best practices. Basic knowledge of low-voltage electronics including use of test equipment. Ability to distinguish colors, patterns and interpret network and cabling diagrams. Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to work closely with others. Must have excellent troubleshooting skills, including the ability to find solutions to issues from technical documents and manuals with limited guidance. Requires extended periods of climbing, standing, lifting and walking, and periodic sitting and computer use. Must be able to work within confined spaces (crawl spaces, wiring closets), use ladders, hydraulic lifts and lift heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs.). Must maintain clean driving record and perform extensive in-town driving to all eight college locations.
