Summary
The Entry-Level Pharmacy Technician plays a key role in the pharmacy team. After completing a comprehensive training period, you will be equipped to accurately enter medication orders, compound IV medications, manage inventory, assist pharmacy staff, and ensure seamless service at both the pharmacy's physical and automated dispensing areas.
Primary Responsibilities
- 20%) Generate operational reports, manage inventory for Automated Dispensing Machines, resolve narcotic discrepancies, troubleshoot issues, and provide training to nursing staff on dispensing challenges.
- 20%) Prepare IV and piggyback medications adhering to aseptic techniques and following USP 797 guidelines.
- 15%) Print and verify medication labels with accuracy and timeliness using our computer systems.
- 15%) Manage the filling, reconciling, and exchanging of 24-hour Unit Dose medication carts using automated tools like the McKesson robot and Cerner system.
- 15%) Efficiently repackage non-unit dose medications utilizing PacMed and McKesson repackaging equipment.
- 15%) Restock and replace floor stock including EMS boxes, crash cart trays, and anesthesia carts, delivering them to designated areas as needed. Conduct monthly floor stock assessments for other hospital departments.
Certifications and Licensures
New hires and transfers must possess a valid pharmacy technician license through the state of Michigan. Individuals with a temporary license must upgrade to a full license within 365 days.
Education
High School Diploma or GED is required.
Additional Responsibilities
Compounding oral and topical solutions, answering phones, retrieving documents, and supporting pharmacy operations as needed.
