This position is responsible for the assignment of patients’ beds to facilitate moving patients who require a hospital stay to the floor from other departments such as the Emergency Department, PACU, etc. This position will also assign patient beds for those patients moving from one nursing unit to another. The Patient Placement Assistant will follow physician o rders in determining the appropriate unit/bed for the patient, in addition to adherence to the Bed Planning policy. Employees will collaborate with unit clerks, nurses, nursing supervision and the Transfer Coordinator RN as needed to ensure appropriate and timely placement of patients being admitted to all MyMichigan Health medical centers.Responsibilities
(50%)* Assigns patients being admitted to any MyMichigan Health medical center utilizing Bed Planning policy as a guide and following physician orders. Receives direction from Transfer Coordinator RN and nursing supervision as needed to ensure appropriate bed assignment.
(25%)* Completes necessary processes in electronic medical record (EMR) to ensure patient transfer to unit is completed accurately in system.
(15%)* Provides customer service to hospitals/physicians or those wishing to transfer patients to MyMichigan Health facilities.
(10%)* T akes direction from Transfer Coordinator RN to assist with transfer process and refers clinical questions to the RN or Patient Placement nursing leadership for completion of transfer.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs tasks on computer.
Answers phone calls from multitude of people/organizations using exemplary customer service skills.
Educates staff/physicians on placement process, as needed.
Other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS:
One year minimum acute care experience required.
Computer knowledge required.
Ability to communicate successfully with physicians, patients, family and staff required.
Organizational skills and ability to prioritize required.
Excellent customer service skills required.
Has experience with medical terminology either from working in a clinical setting or previous medical terminology course completion.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.
Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.

Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.

Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
