Description
The Midnight Mission kitchen serves 3,000 meals a year to people on Skid Row who are experiencing homelessness. TMM also provides catering services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direct supervision of the Managing Chef, prepare food in a safe, clean and sanitized kitchen. Sweep and mop floors, collect and dispose of trash, re-stock pantries as needed, wash walls, clean and sanitize as necessary. Follow a planned menu to prepare food for all guests and staff.

• Availability to work evening and weekends as requested by management, and based on the operational needs of the program

Required Qualifications

• Updated COVID test
• Successful completion of background screening
• Successful completion of drug testing
• Obtain a California Food handlers card or ServSafe card within 30 days of hire.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The duties of this job include cutting, mixing, preparing, stocking, sweeping, mopping, wiping, picking up trash, climbing ladders, bending, stooping, crawling, and carrying kitchen supplies weighing up to 50lbs. for a distance of 20 – 30 feet. While performing the essential functions of the job the employee is frequently required to stand, sit, walk, stoop, talk, smell, view persons in need, hear, reach above and below shoulders; use hand and finger dexterity for the preparation of food, and making and receiving radio calls.
Work Environment
The employee may be in contact with individuals and families in crisis who may be ill, using alcohol and drugs, and who may not be attentive to basic personal hygiene, health and safety practices. The employee may experience a number of unpleasant sensory demands associated with the client’s use of alcohol and drugs, and lack of personal hygiene. The employee must be ready to respond quickly and effectively to many types of situations, including crisis situations and potentially hostile situations. The noise level in the work environment has a wide range depending upon the individuals using the restroom and the external environment. Sometimes work may become stressful when working under pressure.
