What are the responsibilities and job description for the Property Accountant position at MidTN Volunteer Properties?
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Property Account to join our dynamic accounting team. The Property Accountant will need to perform all accounting functions, including recording transactions and journal entries, reconciling asset and liability accounts, and manage the month-end close process and financial statement preparation for a portfolio of apartment communities. This role will report to the Accounting Manager and requires attention to detail, a solid understanding of GAAP, and great customer service "DNA". The ideal candidate will have large company and/or Big 4 Firm experience to help establish a strong accounting foundation for our growing company.
Responsibilities:
Oversee the full cycle accounting for a portfolio of apartment communities.
Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Perform bank reconciliations and monitor cash flow for properties.
Review General Ledger and make necessary reclassifications.
Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts.
Conduct variance analysis and report on financial performance against budget.
Collaborate with property managers, regional managers and other stakeholders on a monthly basis to discuss property financial performance and strategy.
Process and disseminate monthly owner statements.
Prepare and remit owner distributions.
Resident ledger oversight (i.e. security deposit, account adjustments, etc).
Ad hoc projects as needed.
Job Requirements
Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
5 years of experience, preferably in a large organization or Big 4 Firm.
Strong knowledge of GAAP and real estate accounting principles.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, with intermediate to advanced Excel skills. Ability to learn new software quickly.
Possess an analytical, curious, and strategic mindset, with a yearning for continuous improvement.
Exceptional organizational, problem-solving and multitasking skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
Must be able to work independently and meet tight deadlines.
