PURPOSE:
The KCTS Upfit Technician is responsible for performing all vehicle upfits as outlined by the Upfit Manager and/or the vehicle Build Book specific to the actual build. Senior KCTS Flat Rate Upfit Technicians must also stay current on their Ford Motor Company Training to enable them to perform vehicle repair and maintenance work as assigned in accordance with dealer and factory standards. The Technician must have a minimum of a Class E Commercial Drivers License as moving units and periodic test driving are integral functions of this job. Technicians must be able to interpret assembly directions provided by the manufacturer of parts being upfit on the vehicle. Technicians must have basic understanding of vehicle mechanical and electrical systems and employ common sense when starting each new build.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Perform work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and upfit parts manufacturer standards.
- Receive repair order from dispatcher and move vehicle to be worked on into stall area.
- For larger projects, clock on the automated RO electronically utilizing the provided computer equipment.
- Visually examine repair order and all upfit parts delivered to technicians bay to determine if all required parts on RO have been provided.
- Advise dispatcher immediately if additional parts are needed or if there are any factory parts missing or damage to the parts or on the vehicle being upfit.
- Attend required factory and/or dealership sponsored training, as required.
- Senior flat rate technicians are required to attend factory sponsored training classes and dealership sponsored training.
- Hourly technicians are required to attend dealership sponsored training and training specific to their job function as notated by the Upfit Manager.
- Ensure that vehicles are kept clean. Keep shop area neat and clean and be able to account for all dealership owned tools which you have used at all times, returning same after use.
- Understand and follow federal, state and local regulations, such as those governing the disposal of hazardous wastes.
- Return upfit vehicle to proper staging area and secure next vehicle from designated area.
- Miscellaneous other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Qualifications:
ASE certification preferred. General mechanical skills. Ability to read and comprehend instructions. Minimum of a valid Class “E” Commercial Driver’s License and a good driving record. Manual dexterity, good judgment. Must provide own tools. Ability to communicate and work with others in service department.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This is a physically demanding position. The Technician will stand six to eight hours per shift, lift parts weighing up to 100 pounds several times during a shift and use hoist and test equipment as needed. S/he will stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, handle, and feel. S/he will use hand and power tools. S/he will be exposed to noise, vibration, dust, exhaust fumes, and other hazardous and non-hazardous materials. Road testing of vehicles will be required. The Technician will be required to wear company uniforms at all times. The Technician is also required to follow Midway safety procedures (i.e., wear safety glasses in shop areas, etc.)
