Job Title: Behavior Technician
Reports to: Director of Special Education

Primary Purpose: The Behavior Technician plays a critical role in supporting the district's behavior management efforts by providing consultation and guidance to address specific behavioral needs, including non-compliance, aggression, and social skills deficits. A key aspect of this role is the collection and analysis of data to inform the development of individualized behavior intervention plans and supports. Additionally, the Behavior Technician supports students and school staff through
collaboration, modeling, and direct intervention.

Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Requires a high school diploma
4-year degree preferred with experience in behavior management

Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Calm and patient demeanor
Respond to crisis situations, such as student aggression or self-injury, and develop strategies to prevent future crises.
Training in Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports
Ability to model best practices working with behavior in general education and special education classrooms.
Able to collaborate effectively with school staff and student families.
Able to provide training to school staff and families as needed.

Experience:
Training and experience working with children with behavioral needs.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Assist the special education teachers, general education teachers, and parents in utilizing assessment data available on the student for individualizing behavioral interventions.
2. Interpret information about student behavior and conditions as related to learning.
3. Consult with teachers, support professional personnel, parents and community agencies
concerning prevention and/or intervention strategies relating to behavioral problems of students.
4. Provide crisis intervention services.
5. Provide staff development training in mental health, crisis intervention, and other areas involving behavior in schools.
6. Develop and implement behavioral programs, such as behavioral skills training and social skills groups.
7. Coordinated efforts with Behavior Specialist and Coordinator of Behavior Support.
8. Develop needed professional skills appropriate to job assignment.
9. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
10. Demonstrate awareness of school-community needs and initiate activities to meet those identified needs.
11. Complete all other duties as may be assigned.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals.
Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move books and classroom equipment
Environment: Work inside and outside; exposure to noise
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
