Job Title: School Psychologist Resident (LSSP Resident)
Reports to: Director of Special Education and Section 504/Intern’s supervising School Psychologist
Dept./School: Special Education
Exemption Status: Exempt

Primary Purpose:
This position will work collaboratively with a credentialed Midway ISD School Psychologist to provide consultation, collaboration with staff and parents, conduct psychoeducational evaluations, provide counseling services to students, and advise on effective prevention and intervention activities.

Major activities of the position may include leading the evaluation planning process, assisting and completing comprehensive special education evaluations, providing academic and behavior interventions utilizing effective research-based interventions (group and individual), delivering counseling interventions at
individual and group levels, and analyzing and interpreting evaluation results and supporting school teams to make data-based decisions.

The intern may have various opportunities at comprehensive and specialized preschool, elementary, middle school, high school, and transition age (18-22 years old) programs. Interns will have the opportunity to learn, apply, and gain experience within the National Association of School Psychology’s (NASP) 10 training/practice domains and understand how the domains inform the range of knowledge and skills school psychologists can provide. Interns will learn about how services are integrated to best meet the needs of students, families, and the school community.

Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
o Working on completion of Master’s degree or Education Specialist degree with a specialization in School Psychology.
o Eligible for school psychology Internship, via completion of required coursework and training.
o Experience working with youth in schools or similar settings preferred.

o Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
o Ability to travel to multiple work locations as assigned
o Calm and patient demeanor with students and others
o Knowledge of principles, methods, techniques, strategies, and trends in educational, social and emotional adjustment assessment functions
o Knowledge of applicable and appropriate psychological and achievement appraisal instruments, techniques, and procedures
o Excellent written skills

Experience:
Prior experience in school setting preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Assist in the implementation and planning of the evaluation process to be used in the Special Education Program.
2. Administer various informal and clinical instruments related to pupil evaluation.
3. Interpret assessment data to parents and instructional staff.
4. Assist the instructional staff in the utilization of information derived from the evaluation process.
5. Serve as a member of, and consultant to, campus Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committees.
6. Assist the special education teachers in utilizing assessment data available on the student for the individualizing of instruction and interventions.
7. Consult with teachers and parents regarding specific programs designed to meet the needs of children with disabilities.
8. Interpret information about student behavior and conditions as related to learning.
10. Conduct comprehensive assessments of emotional/behavioral factors which may lead to eligibility under the category of Emotional Disturbance.
11. Conduct psychoeducational and dyslexia evaluations when requested by special education administrator.
12. Collaborate with teachers and administrators to develop behavior intervention plans and to conduct functional behavioral assessments for special education, §504, and Response to Intervention (RTI).
13. Provide staff development training in mental health, crisis intervention, and other areas involving psychology in the schools.
14. Compose reports that meet established standards of practice and complete reports with specified timelines.
15. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents as required by federal and state rules and regulations and District policy and procedures.
16. Comply with federal and state law, Commissioner’s rules, and District policy and procedures in the area of special education.
17. Complete all other duties as may be assigned.

Lifting: Moderate carrying; Ability to lift and carry 50 lb
Environment: Regular district-wide travel
Mental Demands: Ability to communicate (verbal and written). Ability to maintain emotional control under stress. Ability to work with others in a non-coercive manner. Ability to maintain a clear focus on customers.
