Primary Purpose:
The Multimedia Journalist (MMJ) is responsible for creating, capturing, and sharing compelling stories that highlight the achievements, events, and initiatives at Midway ISD. This role combines skills in storytelling, photography, videography, and social media to engage students, parents, district staff, and the wider community.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field is preferred.
Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Strong writing, reporting, and editing skills with the ability to adapt for various audiences and platforms.
Proficiency in photography, videography, and related editing software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro, Canva).
Expertise in using and managing social media platforms for professional purposes, including content creation, scheduling, and analytics.
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with a strong sense of curiosity and empathy for students and educational communities.
Capacity to meet deadlines, manage multiple projects, and work independently or as part of a team.
Creative storytelling and content development.
Attention to detail and accuracy in reporting.
Adaptability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Passion for education and community engagement.
Flexible schedule with availability to attend evening and weekend events as needed.
Ability to travel within the school district to capture content at various locations.
Experience:
1-2 years of experience in professional multimedia journalism, content creation, or storytelling is highly desirable.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Research, write, and produce diverse and engaging multimedia content, including news stories, feature articles, videos, and social media posts, aligned with the district’s mission and vision.
2. Attend and cover school events and district activities to gather content and report on outcomes.
3. Manage and update website content and social media platforms to keep the Midway ISD community informed and engaged.
4. Conduct interviews with students, staff, administrators, and community members to create engaging human-interest stories.
5. Collaborate with Communications Director and other team members to plan and execute communication strategies and campaigns.
6. Stay up to date on school initiatives, policies, and achievements to ensure coverage is timely and accurate.
7. Capture high-quality photos and videos for district use, ensuring consistent branding and messaging.
8. Edit videos, images and written content to professional standards.
9. Monitor analytics to evaluate the success of content and adjust strategies to improve community engagement.
10. Uphold and promote the district’s brand and messaging through creative and consistent storytelling.

Motion: Repetitive hand motions, frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching
Lifting: Frequent light lifting and carrying (less than 25 pounds); including carrying and operating photography and videography equipment
