Job Skills / Requirements
The Design Engineer/System Designer is responsible for assisting the sales representatives in the preparation of proposal data and drawings, electronic calculations, CAD drawings, and overall project management in certain instances. While the primary function of the role is in design, this position is also expected to be a technical expert and resource on Midwest Alarm’s main lines of work.

What you’ll be doing:
- Work with Midwest Alarm Services sales representatives to develop and create drawings for proposals.
- Design proposed electronic systems in final form.
- Responsible for timely completion of drawings.
- Responsible for e-filing of all project submittal data and drawings.
- Develop templates to provide to subcontractors showing rough-in requirements for conduit and wire.
- Answer electrical contractor questions as required.
- Travel may be required from time to time.
- Assist and support Midwest Alarm technicians in the field with project information.
- Obtain CAD files from architects, engineers or electrical contractors.
What you’ll need:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Degree in related field preferred
- Certification from an accredited CAD program preferred
- High Technical aptitude
- At least 1 year experience with security and fire systems
- Must be able to obtain specified license/certifications to perform work in the security/fire alarm industry according to the rules and regulations prescribed by the State in which the branch operates.
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
- Must understand and use battery drop and voltage drop calculation software.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, blueprints and project specifications, fire codes and/or government regulations
