What are the responsibilities and job description for the Kennel Attendant position at Midwest Animal Hospital?
We have welcomed new management! Are you interested in veterinary medicine and want to get a feel for what it’s like to work in a hospital? Do you want to provide the very best patient care to all of our adorable dogs and cats and make sure they have the very best home away from home?! Then this position is for you! Our animal care attendants provide for every want and need our furry patients have, making sure they get walked and fed, their kennels are cleaned, they have freshly laundered blankets to snuggle, and they are safe, healthy, and loved while their parents are away. Attention to detail is crucial, as our animal care team records all of the daily habits of each pet that stays with us, and monitors them for any concerning changes or emergency situations that need to be addressed by our treatment team.
If you are interested in veterinary medicine, this position will benefit you, as you will have the opportunity to assist the doctors and technicians in treatment by holding the patient for whatever medical procedure they may require. You will learn proper restraint procedures, how to prevent the spread of contagious illnesses, what signs to watch for that may indicate a pet is in a crisis or needs medical attention, and some basic information about preventative care for cats and dogs.
This is a very physically demanding position that requires a lot of walking, bending, moving, and cleaning! We want to make sure our animals have a clean facility so this position handles laundry, dishes, cleaning bathrooms, floors, and the outside of the building, and emptying garbages in addition to cleaning indoor and outdoor kennels. We want to make sure that anyone in this position can handle working in noisy conditions from time to time and that they are ok lifting and carrying up to 50lb and will be comfortable walking and standing on hard surfaces for the entirety of their shift. The shifts for this position are 5am-1pm and 1pm-9pm and this team does work holidays!
If you join our team, you will be working in a collaborative and supportive environment where everyone wants their team members to succeed! Everyone is fully committed to a respectful environment where team members are treated equally, someone is always there to lend a helping hand, and every animal receives a little extra TLC. If you’d like to join our team, please submit an application and if we feel like you’d be a good fit, we will contact you to schedule an interview!
