What are the responsibilities and job description for the Employment Specialist position at Midwest Asian Health Association?
This position is for the Smart Match for Employment Program (SMEP), serving the low income individuals with mental illness and other disabilities to increase their employment opportunities.
Responsibilities include:
- Community outreach to identify and recruit individuals with mental health and other disabilities to participate in the program
- Work with DHS Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) Division to enroll clients
- Develop employment resources and strategies for job development tailored to each individual’s interest and skills
- Outreach to potential employers for job matching and placement.
- Provide job training and counselling for interview skills and connections with potential employment opportunities
- Develop relationships with clients and employers, and provide support for job retention
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- At least three years of experience working with people with disabilities for job placement
- Experience and skills outreaching to employers and job markets
- Excellent communication and marketing skills required
- Bachelor’s degree in social worker, mental health, public health, or education desirable
- Ability to take multiple tasks and work under deadlines
- Experiences working with rehabilitation programs
- Employment Specialist is expected to use personal automobile on the job and to maintain bodily injury/liability insurance
- Feel comfortable to talk to people and be persuasive to promote mission
- Good knowledge about disability benefits and resources
- Good organizational skills
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $25.00 - $40.00 per hour
