Our Engineering Manager will manage all engineering activities within a department including design, development, production and testing. Implements and maintains overall engineering objectives and initiatives. Confronts and solves performance/operational issues to improve development efficiency. Leads and develops the engineering team. Oversees a robust project management process and delivery timelines to keep projects on schedule and on budget. Manages team in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of the function and department processes.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates activities of engineers, designers, and technicians by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and directing the work of the assigned team to meet goals and objectives as defined for the department.
  • Directs and leads development, implementation, and revisions of the company’s products with clear and specific objectives, involving existing and new materials and products utilized in the Automotive, Transit and Mobility industry.
  • Performs design calculations, prepares specifications, drawings, process layouts, capacity planning and other sound Engineering principles to implement into the production processes.
  • Performs administrative functions such as reviewing and writing reports, approving expenditures, implementing policies/procedures, and making decisions about the purchase of materials or services.
  • Analyze technology, resource needs, and market demand, to plan and assess the feasibility of projects.
  • Leads team activities, provides reports, communications, and coordination to all other involved departments and to leadership as requested.
  • Supports Work Order Review, Product Support Requests, ISO, and Product Design Plan programs.
  • Directs necessary testing of products and/or components and provides training on new or revised products, product, and process improvements.
  • Regularly directs the assignments and work of staff employees, interviewing open position candidates, recommendations for hiring and terminations, training of staff members, disciplinary actions, staff performance reviews, changes in compensation/status, etc.
  • Supports semi-annual financial audits and year-end inventory as requested.
  • Motivate, coach, reward, and discipline team being supervised; resolve personnel issues.
  • Manage vacation and timecard approvals, hiring, and training.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including formal presentation skills before small and large groups.
  • Ability to read, write, comprehend, and verbally communicate simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in English.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to effectively lead an engineering team with minimal direct supervision.

  • Sound judgment with the ability to make timely, and sometimes difficult, decisions.
  • Able to effectively prioritize and execute multiple concurrent assignments in a high-pressure environment.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.


Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree of Engineering, Engineering Technology, or equivalent education required.
  • Typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. 10 years total experience.


Work Environment/Conditions:

  • General office environment with work on the plant floor as required.
