What are the responsibilities and job description for the Personal Lines Customer Service Representative position at Midwest Bank?
This position is responsible for providing prompt, accurate, courteous service to customers, producers and company personnel.
Essential Functions
- Grow and develop talents and insurance knowledge to highest level possible.
- Provide, with a positive attitude, support in obtaining, maintaining, expanding and servicing personal lines accounts.
- Prioritize and provide exceptional customer service
- Answer all incoming.
- Turn around personal lines quotes within 24 hours.
- Issue any required documentation for new business.
- Maintain knowledge of all available carriers to provide best placement of the risk.
- Assist producers in finding opportunities to upsell on accounts.
- Collect premiums per established agency procedures.

Receive phone calls from clients and companies regarding insurance, or administrative problems, and comply with the request and/or refer to the producer only when necessary.
- Examples include coverage verification such as Proof of Property Certs, ID Cards, Policy Changes, etc.
- Communicate with Customer regarding cancellation and prepare and process cancellations when required.
- Review all applications, policies, and endorsements for accuracy.
- Maintain suspense items, mail, telephone calls and email inbox in a timely manner.
- Keep current on knowledge of underwriting guidelines, ratings systems and processing requirements for each personal lines carrier.
- Maintain all client activity in the agency automation system in an up-to-date manner.
- Service personal lines accounts in a manner to eliminate gaps in coverage, thus reducing our E&O exposures. This includes, but is not limited to, coverage and schedule reviews with clients.
- Prioritize workload and/or request assistance as required.
- Broadly participate in the retention and growth of your assigned book of business.
- Assist other agency departments in securing and/or providing information necessary to issue appropriate policies in their department for which we have a mutual client.
- Meet with clients to discuss and handle their insurance needs; offering recommendations when the need becomes apparent.
- Assist Claims Department in providing coverage information.
- Keep producers fully informed of all important activities on their accounts.
- Assist other departments and producers in cross-selling and account rounding.
- Assist all departments with customer service.
- Assume other job responsibilities as assigned by producer or department manager.
Job requirements and Qualifications
- Knowledge of computer systems and operations.
- Good listening and communication skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Knowledge of personal insurance and products.
- Ability to carry and present self in a professional manner.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR ADVANCEMENT INTO THIS POSITION
- Satisfactory policy / procedure reviews in current position
- Paycom review score of 3.0 or higher
- Positive recommendation from current supervisor
- Ability to work in conjunction with the other roles in the agency
- Completion of required Total CSR courses
- Licensed in P & C insurance
- OTHER INFORMATION
- Frequently work at a fast pace with unscheduled interruptions.
- Frequently sit for long periods of time.
- This is a public contact position that requires appropriate business apparel.
- Pay Grade – $17 -$20 per hour
