Summary/Objective
The Body Shop Manager develops business through insurance adjusters, customers and other sources to assure an adequate sales volume. Provides a reasonable department operating profit and maintains customer satisfaction standards while controlling expenses. Directs the activities of the body shop employees in performing body and paint repairs, including meeting time schedules and productivity levels and maintaining high quality standards. Maintains all OSHA/EPA regulations.
Essential Functions
- Forecasts goals and objectives for the department and strives to meet them.
- Hires, trains, motivates and monitors the performance of all body shop employees.
- Directs and schedules the work of all body shop employees.
- Establishes and maintains good working relationships with customers and insurance adjusters to encourage repeat and referral business.
- Implements aggressive marketing plan to increase body shop business.
- Visits customer locations to write estimates and make sales calls.
- Monitors technician’s daily productivity reports and submits weekly reporting.
- Follows up on department orders to ensure parts availability.
- Monitors the progress and completion of vehicles in the shop ensuring that proper repair and safety procedures are followed.
- Maintains high quality service repairs and minimizes comebacks. Conducts periodic spot checks of completed jobs for thoroughness and quality.
- Handles customer complaints immediately and according to dealerships guidelines.
- Monitors paper flow to ensure all documents are accounted for and closed in a timely manner. Prepares final billing for completed repair work.
- Understands, keeps abreast of and complies with state, federal and local regulations that affect body shop operations. Provides necessary training for employees.
- Ensure proper safety equipment is being used at all times. Maintains a clean, organized work area.
- Attends dealership staff meetings.
- Maintains a professional appearance and attitude with co-workers, customers, vendors.
- Follows all company policies and procedures. Enforces company policy and procedure to body shop staff.

Supervisory Responsibility Supervise all Body Shop staff. Typically, 4 or more employees.

This job operates in an office setting but also requires frequent movement throughout the parts and service departments. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
Physical Demands
Sit or stand for prolonged periods of time.

Ability to lift/push/pull up to 45 lbs.
Normal range of hearing and vision.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. This position would require working evenings and weekends on occasion, working with customers and key management on various projects and sales. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the “core” work hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and must work a minimum of 40 hours each week to maintain full time status.
Required Education and Experience
High School diploma or equivalent. Business degree preferred.
Minimum 5 years’ Shop Manager with estimating experience.
Minimum 7 years’ Heavy Duty Truck Equipment and/or Body Shop Technician experience
Dealership experience preferred.
