Job Overview
As a Direct Support Professional, you will play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for children with disabilities or special needs in a Friday evening/weekend agency-based care setting. Your primary responsibility will be to provide compassionate care and support in a structured, engaging environment designed to promote growth, development, and fun. This position requires a dedicated individual committed to ensuring the well-being and progress of each child.
Schedule:
- Fridays: 3:15 PM – 7:00 PM
- Saturdays: 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM
- Start Date: March
Responsibilities
- Assist children with activities during after-school and weekend care, including homework assistance, social skills development, recreational activities, and community outings.
- Provide active supervision to ensure safety and well-being in the agency setting while supporting individual needs.
- Engage children in social, educational, and recreational activities that promote learning, independence, and emotional growth.
- Support children with memory care, behavioral challenges, or cognitive needs, following individualized care plans and adapting activities accordingly.
- Ensure that all child rights and dignity are respected at all times in accordance with agency policies and standards.
- Facilitate communication between children, families, and the agency team to monitor progress and adjust care plans as necessary.
- Assist with mobility and transfers, including lifting and supporting children with physical disabilities.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and supportive environment by following hygiene and safety protocols set by the agency.
Skills
- Experience working with children in agency-based care, after-school programs, or recreational settings is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of developmental disabilities, behavioral support techniques, and strategies for engaging children in structured programs is beneficial.
- Strong understanding of child safety, rights, and advocacy within an agency-based care setting.
- Ability to assist with mobility and transfers safely according to agency guidelines.
- Excellent communication skills to interact positively with children, families, and team members.
- Patience, empathy, and a passion for supporting children are essential qualities for success in this role.
