Responsibilities

Join our team at MEC as a Cloud Solutions Architect, where you will be at the forefront of designing, implementing, and maintaining our cloud-based solutions using Microsoft Azure services. This critical role supports our ongoing growth by developing and maintaining scalable, secure, and optimized cloud solutions for MEC and other operating units within W. R. Berkley Corporation.

What You Will Do

  • Solution Design: Collaborate with Software Developers, Data Engineers, Data Scientists, and other Solution Developers to design scalable, secure, and cost-efficient cloud solutions.
  • Service Provisioning: Manage Terraform, GitHub Workflows, and other tools to support deployment and configuration of Azure services, including compute, storage, databases, networking, security, and containerization. Work with MEC’s partners, such as Berkley Technology Services and other operating units, as appropriate.
  • Platform Roadmap: Develop and maintain a roadmap for service upgrades to mitigate application interruptions, or work with MEC’s partners as appropriate.
  • Deployment Architecture: Establish and refine DevOps standards and best practices and manage the solution deployment architecture.
  • Security and Compliance: Ensure that solutions adhere to security policies and compliance requirements. Assist Data Scientists and Solution Developers in developing artifacts for the W.R. Berkley Building Permit and AI Governance processes.
  • Automation and Orchestration: Leverage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) frameworks such as Terraform templates to automate service deployment and management processes, or work with MEC’s partners as appropriate.
  • Pipeline Management: Implement and manage data pipelines to and from on-prem and cloud data sources, or work with the Data Engineer as appropriate.
  • Data Modeling: Visually diagram how data will be acquired, stored, and used within the solutions, following accepted corporate best practices, or work with the Data Engineer as appropriate.
  • Data Management: Design data storage solutions and ensure that user and application access to data is securely managed, or work with the Data Engineer as appropriate.
  • Service Monitoring: Monitor the performance and availability of managed services and provide reports to management.
  • Service Optimization: Continuously improve and optimize services to meet the needs of Solution Developers and Modelers.
  • Job Schedule Management: Establish and manage schedules of batch and other routine processes.
  • Support and Maintenance: Provide support for service-related issues and perform regular maintenance tasks.
  • Disaster Recovery: Work collaboratively with MEC’s partners to establish recovery time objectives for Azure subscriptions and regularly test disaster recovery plans.
  • Cost Management: Regularly monitor the costs of MEC’s Azure subscriptions and provide reports to management.

Qualifications

What You Bring:

  • Educational Background: A university or college degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Azure services including compute, storage, networking, and security.
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications such as Azure Solutions Architect or Azure DevOps
  • DevOps Experience: Experience with DevOps tools such as Terraform and GitHub Workflows for CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code.
  • Cloud Solution Design: Experience in designing scalable, secure, and resilient cloud solutions.
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Excellent analytical abilities with a knack for solving complex problems and proposing effective solutions.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Strong capability to work collaboratively in a dynamic team environment, with stellar communication skills.
