Responsibilities

The ideal Senior Examiner embodies a growth mindset, demonstrating a strong passion for customer service and the continuous improvement of claims processes to achieve optimal outcomes. This role seeks a patient and conscientious individual who excels both independently and within a team, contributing effectively to the daily functions of the Claims department. It is important for the ideal candidate to proactively apply creative problem-solving techniques and develop strategic solutions that enhance efficiency and effectiveness. Success in this position is driven by a keen attention to detail, an adaptable approach to reprioritizing tasks, and a commitment to constantly evolving within a dynamic, task-oriented environment.

Key Functions Include But Are Not Limited To

  • Examines assigned claims by evaluating and keeping current TPA reserves on file, establishing and updating MECC reserves within authority level and pushing settlement opportunities
  • Reviews and Authorizes reimbursement payments.
  • Identifies claims that require escalation to management or additional resources.
  • Completes and presents Large Loss reports to management, when required.
  • As a backup, Triages complex claim exposures by comprehensively documenting accident and claim history, verifying compensability, evaluating for interventional and settlement opportunities, assigning claims to team and escalating when necessary.
  • Helps with extra tasks outside of the regular workload.
  • Comfortable challenging conventional approaches and exploring new ideas to drive success.
  • Uses data-driven insights to meet and/or exceeds the given monthly goals and best practice standards.
  • Mentors and trains new or junior team members.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 3 years of workers’ compensation claim handling experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of workers’ compensation insurance, legal, and medical terminology preferred.
  • Experience working with Third Party Administrators, brokers, and insureds.
  • Basic experience in Word and Excel a plus.
  • Experience evaluating detailed check (payment) registers and common WC claim documents.
  • Self-motivated, informed decision making with the drive to get things done.
  • Collaborative, open to others’ views and supportive of decisions made.
  • Ownership, must anticipate, identify solutions, and effectively manage a given process.
  • Influence, effectively communicate direction and demonstrate credibility.
  • Ability to think creatively and develop innovative solutions to complex challenges.
