The EH&S Director manages environmental compliance, waste approvals, and health and safety personal through the entire organization. This position will drive compliance and safe work practices and environmental compliance by formulating and directing policies and procedures. They are responsible for developing, implementing and continuously improving Midwest’s environmental management systems to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, policies and standards.
- Build, lead, and cultivate a team in multiple sites to support and demonstrate safety culture, and meet compliance obligations.
- Lead all compliance efforts for permitting, stormwater discharge, and hazardous and non-hazardous waste disposal.
- Maintain compliance with all permit conditions.
- Ensure permit renewals and all required environmental reports are prepared promptly.
- Review and update all required environmental compliance plans, such as the SPCC, RCRA Contingency Plan, Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan and Emergency Action plan, to ensure they are maintained and remain current.
- Ensure all required environmental and safety inspections are completed and documented, and that documentation remains current.
- Manage corrective and preventative actions arising from environmental audits and inspections.
- Collect, document, and report necessary plant data for company-wide environmental metrics as required by ESG initiatives for clients.
- Lead and document root cause investigations for environmental incidents.
- Work with plant personal to incorporate new processes into the facility while ensuring effective environmental compliance and performance improvement.
- Develop and implements programs, plans, and procedures, as requested, to meet/exceed safety performance goals and implement the company’s safety elements and safety metrics.
- Lead the effort to manage site chemical inventory management systems.
- Participate in EH&S activities, such as monitoring, safety inspections and procedure development, and new employee orientation training.
- Provide support to the Sr. VP of Compliance in anticipation of moving into the role.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Over five years of experience in Environmental compliance or Health & Safety industry.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Extensive knowledge of RCRA regulations and procedures.

- Knowledge of environmental/industrial cleaning equipment and techniques (e.g., pressure washing, tank cleaning, hazardous waste disposal).
- Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and DOT Haz Mat regulations and their applications, RCRA, Hazwoper.
- Experience with permitting compliance.
- Proficiency in leading a company’s environmental management system. ·
