Job Description
Midwest Distribution is looking for an Industrial Engineer Intern to assist with strategic planning and daily operations in the logistics department. This internship offers practical experience in logistics, supply chain management, and transportation coordination. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in logistics and a desire to learn about inventory control, transportation planning, carrier management, and process optimization.
Essential Functions

1. Logistics Coordination
- Track shipments and resolve delays or issues while updating relevant departments.
- Support the preparation of daily and weekly transportation reports.
- Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for new process changes.
2. Carrier Management
- Collaborate with carriers to ensure efficient and cost-effective transportation services.
- Maintain carrier relationships by addressing issues and monitoring performance.
- Assist with rate negotiations and, when needed, identify alternative carriers.
3. Data Analysis & Reporting
- Collect, analyze, and interpret transportation data.
- Prepare reports and dashboards to monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to transportation.
- Identify trends and insights to improve transportation efficiency and reduce costs.
4. Process Improvement
- Work with teams to optimize logistics and transportation processes.
- Document current processes and suggest enhancements for improved efficiency.
- Implement process changes and monitor results for effectiveness.
5. Inventory & Supply Chain Support
- Collaborate with supply chain and inventory teams to coordinate transportation needs.
- Assist with inventory audits and tracking related to inbound and outbound shipments.
- Provide support for transportation-related supply chain issues.
6. Compliance & Safety
- Ensure transportation operations comply with local and federal regulations.
- Assist with documentation for regulatory compliance and safety standards.
- Participate in safety training and support safe transportation initiatives.
7. Additional Responsibilities
- Manage inventory levels to ensure optimal stock availability.
- Coordinate efficient shipping and receiving operations.
- Oversee quality control procedures to maintain product standards.
