Job Function:
Deliver Product to our Customers with high quality customer service
- Make customer service to both external and internal customers a priority. Maintain a positive and helpful attitude with the customers, which includes but is not limited to, helping with unloading, helping with plant questions and directing them to an internal resource with questions the driver is unable to answer.
- Oversee the loading of their truck.
- Get maps / directions needed for the daily deliveries prior to leaving the nursery.
- Keep in contact with the office staff and with customers on delivery status.
- Maintain a clean and professional personal and company image.
Comply with DOT Rules and Regulations
- Drive in a safe manner as a priority.
- Comply with random drug and alcohol testing and routine physicals.
- Keep equipment in a safe operating condition.
- Perform daily pre and post inspections.
- Maintain a daily log book and inspection book.
- Turn in all paperwork daily as it applies to DOT regulations.
Act as a leader for the driver team
- Determine and achieve individual goals working toward personal growth while supporting the department, company and industry. Aspire to annually achieve the driver safety award status.
- Understand and help execute action plans to achieve personal and department goals.
- Participate in department meetings, particularly for shipping department. Lead some aspects of driver and safety training relating to vehicle safety, DOT rules and regulations, etc.
- Train new drivers on Midwest equipment and for higher functioning licensure levels.
During off-season, perform various tasks in Shipping and other departments as assigned.
- Specialized off-season deliveries such as:
- Trade show deliveries, loading, unloading and setup.
- Other deliveries as required such as catalog pickup and delivery.
- Act in a self-directed and productive manner on off-season assignments such as: cage repairs, welding, cutting boards for cages, cleanup and organization activities, etc.
- Work supportively and productively for non-shipping supervisors on off-season assignments and winter work list tasks, such as: snow removal, painting, minor construction projects, etc.
- Other tasks as assigned in Shipping, Maintenance or other departments.
Required Skills:
- Current CDL license
- Current Medical Card
- Good organizational skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Interest in green industry
Expectations:
- Ability to drive long hours for several months without much time off
- Work 55 hours per week
- Strong commitment to customer service and teamwork
- Ability to change things at the last hour
- Ability to remain calm in extreme conditions (ie: weather, customer issues, etc.)
Education / Experience:
- CDL license
- Two of more years experience driving for class A
- Experience with Bulk Trucks preferred
