What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Technician position at Midwest Groundcovers LLC?
Objective / Accountability:
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for safely and effectively repairing and maintaining the support systems essential to the production of plants in our nurseries and company-owned facilities and properties.
Function / Corresponding Tasks:
Provide support and maintenance of assigned specialized technical equipment
- Repair and maintain greenhouse and pump station technical equipment such as injectors, irrigation controllers and booms, climate controls, and pumps in the nurseries
- Ability to learn and understand how to troubleshoot, diagnose problems and repair equipment in a timely manner.
- Ability to learn and understand the function and intended use of company equipment.
- Safely and effectively conduct preventative and pre/post season maintenance of assigned equipment
- Report to Maintenance Supervisor regularly all related activities, findings, problems and for direction.
Provide maintenance and construction support for projects and problem resolution
- Ability to learn and understand, and be comfortable with repairs, maintenance, and construction of basic 110V and 24V electrical systems.
- Ability to learn and understand greenhouse space heaters, provide repairs and maintenance as needed.
- Ability to learn and understand plumbing and irrigation systems throughout the nursery, provide repairs, maintenance and construction support as needed

Required Skills / Abilities:

- Rudimentary understanding of electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems.
- Fundamental understanding of carpentry techniques and large equipment operation.

- Proficient in basic computer skills. E.g.- Outlook, Word, etc.

Preferred Skills / Abilities:
- Understanding of electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems.
- Understanding of carpentry techniques and large equipment operation.
- Capacity to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, service manuals, electrical schematics, blueprints and work orders.

- Be on call occasionally for after-hour emergency repair of heaters, pumps, etc.

- Ability to lift 50 lbs., stand for extended periods, work occasionally in hot or cold environments.
Education / Experience Pre-requisites:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Any combination of documented training and/or real-life experience with mechanical systems and processes.
