Key Accountabilities:

  • Diagnostics, Repairs, and Maintenance
    • Perform diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on heavy-duty spray trucks, tractor equipment, and bulk liquid tankers.
    • Troubleshoot and repair common truck issues, as well as spray truck-specific problems, including electrical systems, hydraulic and mechanical components, pumps, plumbing, and spray control systems.
    • Verify vehicle performance through test drives, adjustments to controls and systems, and system checks.
    • Adhere to scheduled maintenance plans, assist with preventative maintenance tasks, and maintain accurate service records using electronic software for DOT-inspected equipment.
  • Spray Truck Fabrication and Assembly
    • Assist in assembly and fabrication of custom spray trucks, including welding, cutting, and other tasks to meet simple build specifications.
    • Install spray systems to ensure functionality, durability, and safe operation.
  • Shop and Inventory Management
    • Monitor and manage shop supplies by performing inventory checks, ensuring best pricing, avoiding unnecessary stock, placing orders, and verifying receipt of goods.
    • Maintain shop cleanliness and organization using lean and 5S principles.
  • Field Service Support
    • Respond to occasional service calls at local field sites, typically within 1 hour away, with overnights rarely required.
    • Coordinate with Regional Field Service Managers to prioritize truck repairs based on upcoming jobs and adjust priorities as required.
  • Team Collaboration and Coaching
    • Collaborate with team members and provide technical guidance as needed.
    • Coach and support junior mechanics, sharing best practices and promoting safe operations.
    • Communicate professionally and effectively with team members and stakeholders, even under stress.
  • Safety and Standards Compliance
    • Ensure all work is completed according to established safety guidelines and company standards.

Key Authorities:

  • Take units out of service by using sound mechanic and safety judgment
  • Decide when a part needs replaced on a truck, and what is the safest and most effective way to do it.

Reporting Relationships (Direct Reports):

  • N/A

Education

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Vocational or technical certification in vehicle repair preferred

Licensure/Certifications

  • A valid driver’s license
  • Class A CDL is a plus
  • Tanker endorsement is a plus

Skills/Experience

  • Familiarity with hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems, including troubleshooting and repair.
  • Experience with welding, cutting, and fabrication processes to meet basic build specifications
  • Time management and organization skills to stay on task and priority
  • At least 2 years’ experience in Diesel Mechanic capacity
  • Ability to independently identify, research and resolve issues
  • A decisive individual who possesses a detail-oriented perspective
  • Ability to work with peers in a team effort
  • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple priorities and deadlines
  • A well-organized and self-directed individual who is able to work with minimal amount of supervision
  • Capability to efficiently complete tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays pursuant with industry demands
  • Ability to lift heavy objects
  • Willingness to travel up 10%

Work Environment:

Includes a production environment, with exposure to confined space, excessive noise, heavy machinery, and exposure to adverse environmental issues and/or inclement weather conditions.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to sit and stand for prolonged periods of time. Ability to lift, pull, push containers up to 50 pounds and manipulate equipment which requires strength, gross motor and fine motor coordination.
