Job Overview

The Year-round Manager is responsible for ensuring that their facility meets the excellent customer service and safety standards that come with the Midwest Pool Management name by enforcing all facility, company, and local health department rules, regulations, and guidelines.

Year-round managers will be in a fast-paced management role. In this position, there will be daily and direct interaction with clients, office staff, and field staff. The Facility Manager will coordinate and supervise the Assistant Managers, Headguards, Lifeguards, and any other staff members assigned to them. They will ensure that staff has the knowledge, skills, and resources needed to achieve company and personal success.

A successful individual will offer solutions and resolve issues using a combination of individual research and predetermined escalation processes. They will foster partnerships with other Year-Round Managers and office staff, and be punctual and timely. Additionally, they will possess strong organizational and communication skills and an understanding of the position's operational rhythms and consistently meet deadlines.

Primary Responsibilities

Maintain a safe, clean environment that exceeds the client's expectations.

As the manager at one of our facilities, you are a role model when it comes to safety. In both your attitude and the manner in which the facility is run, this includes but is not limited to:

  • Fill out daily checklists
  • Recognizing & taking appropriate steps necessary to rectify an unsafe or potentially dangerous area or situation. Be proactive rather than reactive.
  • Abiding by facility rules & making sure the staff does themselves as well as enforces them with the patrons.
  • Monitor chemical readings at pools to verify water is balanced and maintained to maximize chemical efficiency. Enter these readings into the online system and document them in the SOP.
  • Develop an effective in-service training program that accurately documents each lifeguard's completed hours.
  • Practice emergency action plan outlining protocols for various emergencies that could occur at the assigned facility. Work with direct supervisor to ensure that they are updated as needed.
  • Must work the days and hours necessary to perform all assigned responsibilities and tasks.

Cleanliness

This is a never-ending task. Between the cleanliness of the pool(s) themselves, the filter, storage, and guard rooms along with the furniture, trashcans, concession and deck areas, and bathrooms, there is always something that needs to be cleaned.

Being a manager means it is one of your responsibilities to make sure the facility is not only picked up but clean. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Develop maintenance and cleaning schedules, on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis
  • Checking chemicals at least every 2 hours, and record in the web-based aquatics program
  • Picking up trash off the deck & emptying trash cans.
  • Washing trash cans & deck furniture
  • Thorough cleaning of bathrooms daily as well as constant spot cleanings
  • Backwashing, vacuuming & cleaning the hair/lint pot
  • Power-washing the deck
  • Keeping guard office & storage areas organized

Oversee operations for your assigned facility, including the supervision of all MPM employees.

This includes but is not limited to:

  • Accurately complete timekeeping reports and corrections each payroll period by the deadline established.
  • Complete employee evaluations on lifeguards, head guards, and assistant managers.
  • Schedule staff efficiently per Manage staffing levels such that the appropriate number of staff are on duty
  • Responsible for filling all shifts and communicating scheduling issues with the supervisor, being proactive, not reactive.
  • All schedules should be submitted to the web-based aquatics program and published no later than two weeks before their start.
  • Reports are filled out accurately and legibly and submitted when due.
  • Hold all staff members accountable to company policies and the high standards of Midwest Pool Management utilizing the company discipline policy.

Communication.

As a manager, you will be the key to communication between staff, the field supervisors, and the MPM office as well as the Client. There will be meetings set up with the Client that you will attend; however, this should not be the only time you speak with them. It is important that while you establish an open communication line with employees and clients you handle all conversations professionally and fairly. While we understand managers have many duties throughout the day, they should never be held up in the office or pump room.


Professionalism.

As a manager, you should consistently be the epitome of professionalism in both appearance and attitude. Just as our staff, you are required to be in full uniform at all times and be punctual and timely. You will not be able to enforce the lifeguards being in uniform if you are not in uniform yourself. Your uniform should consist of:

  • Whistle
  • Fanny Pack
  • Manager t-shirt or polo
  • Khakis or black shorts
  • Swimsuit or trunks can be worn under uniform if desired
  • Visor
  • Sunglasses
  • Sunscreen

Physical Demands

  • Ability to respond to emergencies and administer first aid and CPR effectively
  • Ability to operate pool equipment and machinery
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and transport 50 feet

All other tasks as assigned.
