Swim Lesson Instructor Job Description
Trained to teach private and group swim lessons to a variety of participates.
Our Goals
You should wear your MPM lifeguard swimsuit or swim trunks. If you are not a lifeguard, make sure you wear a plain black one-piece swimsuit or black swim trunks. Also, make sure you are wearing sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15.
Scheduling and Availability
Schedules will be determined based on your availability. You will enter your availability on Digi and your Coordinator will schedule you accordingly. Keep in mind you must be able to work the ENTIRE session that you are scheduled for. You are also encouraged to let your Coordinator know which levels you are comfortable with teaching so they can take that into consideration when scheduling Swim Lesson Instructors.

- Promote safety in the pool and their surroundings.
- Encourage and promote independent swimmers.
- Improve swimmers' ability throughout the course of the program.
- At least 15 years of age.
- Ability to demonstrate Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Sidestroke, and Elementary Backstroke.
- Ability to tread water for 1 minute.
- For older levels, ability to demonstrate front standing dive, open turns, and flip turns.
- Ability to demonstrate surface dive and swim under water for 10 yards.
- Instructor will attend a Swim Lesson Clinic in order to get certified to teach swim lessons.
- Fill out and sign an Instructor Agreement at the Swim Lesson Clinic.
- Have general knowledge of all levels and follow all guidelines of Swim Care Program.
- Always review skills from previous day.
- Begin and end class on time. Arrive 10 minutes before each class so you can have time to set up supplies and have lesson plans ready to go.
- Maintain safety at all times. Never leave class unattended.
- Set class expectations before the start of lessons and enforce those expectations.
- Make sure all paperwork is filled out as needed daily. This includes attendance and skills for each student.
- Introduce yourself to parents and be willing to discuss their child's progress.
- At the end of each session, complete a progress report or certificate for every student in the class and have parents fill out an evaluation form.
