Midwest Rail seeks Construction Operator with specifically backhoe experience in Napoleon OH Area:
An operator is not an entry level crew position it requires knowledge of tasks associated with the repair and or construction of railroad spurs and railroads throughout the United States. This position requires some travel throughout the United States with stays in Hotel 40% of the time. Employees are promoted according to their capabilities and desire for advancement, not after a specific period of time (moving up fast is a definite possibility). Employees must complete specific training activities and pass a written exam for advancement.
Operator Responsibility
- Set up and manage jobs through planning and proper material handling
- Lead by example - set the pace
- Run rail equipment and backhoes
- Management of subordinate team members
- Complete jobs as provided and written by development team safely and within budgets
Railroad Construction Laborer Responsibilities:
- Remove, Drive, or Tighten bolts and spikes, etc with pneumatic tools
- Tighten structural steel bolts with impact wrench
- Remove existing structural steel with oxygen and acetylene torch
- Drill holes in existing or new structural steel with specialized hydraulic or gas drill
- Drill holes in existing or new timber with 1/2" Electric or Hydraulic Drill
- Work at heights
- Ascend and descend slopes with rough terrain
- Drive spikes and drive pins with spike maul
- Dig using hand shovel
- Operate 1/2' drill and generator, impact wrench, pneumatic tools, hydraulic tools and chain saw
- Use lineman gear, D-handle spade (shovel), sharp shooter (shovel), crow bar, and pry bar
Requirements:
Education and/or Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience with heavy physical labor
- Exposure to heavy equipment
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to understand percentages, and grade
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Possess a valid driver’s license, and the ability to pre-qualify for a Company Operator’s Permit
- CDL or willing to get CDL
Other Requirements
- Ability to successfully complete railroad training programs
- Drug free
- Must be able to travel 100% of the time
- Willingness to learn
Physical Demands
- This is not an easy job, and the love of hard work is a must
- This position involves Heavy Work: exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle, feel, lift and grab; reach with hands and arms; push and pull; climb and balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl; talk and hear

Work Environment
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions while working on the railroad.
- The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and equipment
- The noise level in the work environment is usually loud
