What are the responsibilities and job description for the Belt Installer position at Midwest Rubber Service & Supply Company?

This position requires a strong dedication to producing quality work in the belting department.  This includes but is not limited to the installation of belts at customer client locations, commitment to safety as our number one main priority, effective communication, and excellent interaction with our customers. 

 

Specific KPI’s Critical to the Success of Position: 

  1. Execute quality and efficient conveyor belt installations. 
  2. Through adhering to all safety requirements, utilize tools effectively to complete the task.  
  3. Work closely with other departments to support customer requirements. 

 

Job Duties: 

  • Support belt installations that may require more than 24 hours with overnight stays. 
  • Participation in the Installer On-Call Program is required. 
  • Participate in a minimum of 50% of requested installs.  
  • Work closely with other installers to support the scheduling of both in-state and out-of-state belt installations. 
  • Provide detailed reporting on all belt installation jobs by ensuring that paperwork is completed accurately and timely. 
  • Build conveying belts as required by production orders and manufacturing guidelines. 
  • Work closely with our sales teams to support customer requirements. 
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with both internal and external customers. 
  • Detect and report defective equipment, material, and conditions that may compromise safety, quality, or customer requirements. Report all quality issues to the department supervisor. 
  • Exercise proper care in the use of tools and equipment to ensure the safety of everyone involved.  
  • Attend and participate in all scheduled meetings. 
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work environment. 
  • Register all material output and consumption data. 
  • Track/record labor utilizing the ERP system. 
  • Support department on-time delivery objectives. 
  • Engage in all continuous improvement efforts. 
  • Other duties as assigned by management. 

 

Qualifications:  

  • High school diploma or equivalent 
  • Ability to follow instructions and operate independently. 
  • Demonstrates the ability to work effectively within diverse teams, actively contributing ideas, supporting co-workers, and achieving common objectives. Adapts to different working styles, communicates openly, and fosters a positive team environment. 
  • Ability to safely operate a forklift.  
  • Ability to read a tape measure and blueprints. 
  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve. 
  • Ability to use tools required by the job (Knife, Square, straight edge, etc.) 
  • Ability to operate a computer, Excel, Word, Windows, e-mail, and ERP System 
  • Ability to do basic math computations regularly. 
  • Ability to speak, read & understand English. 
  • A valid driver’s license is required. 
  • Willing to work varying work schedules, including day shift, night shift, weekends, and holidays with short notice. 
  • Willingness and ability to travel both in-state and out-state via car, bus, train, or air for multiple days.  30% travel. 

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • 1-2 years of conveyor belt work experience is preferred.  
  • 5 years of experience with conveyor belt installations is preferred. 
  • 2 years of fork truck and aerial lift experience is preferred. 
  • 2 years customer service experience – specifically face-to-face customer interaction is preferred. 

 

Physical Demands: 

  • Ability to work and stand for an entire shift. 
  • Able to independently work and lift up to 50 pounds at heights, confined spaces, and hazardous areas. 
  • Ability to lift 100 pounds with a team or assistance. 
  • Requires normal vision range. 
  • Bending, reaching, and climbing ladders 
  • Adhere to the Installer dress code 
  • Ability to withstand temperatures greater than 85 degrees for the assigned work shift. 
  • Responsible for wearing all required personal protective equipment (PPE)
