Description

The Laboratory Support Coordinator is responsible for the efficient operation of the Central Processing Area functions, Phlebotomy area, point person for UNOS, BioTouch liaison, SOP revisions for CPA and for maintenance of client satisfaction.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Ensures the efficient and effective operation of the Laboratory Central Processing Area.  This includes training and directing other laboratory employees that may rotate through this section.
  2. Oversees phlebotomy room, SOPs, stock supplies and ensure timely draws are performed.
  3. Functions as data coordinator and UNOS liaison responsible for completion of all patient related UNOS forms.
  4. Oversees BioTouch test kit outsourcing.  Determines, proposes changes and makes necessary adjustments to the outsourcing system. 
  5. Participates in the annual safety assessment for the laboratory supply usage as a representative on the MTN sharps committee.
  6. Monitors and logs in all laboratory tests and samples following quality assurance guidelines established by Midwest Transplant Network.
  7. Aliquots and stores antibody screen samples.
  8. Establishes and maintains a professional service business interaction with the clients of the laboratory.  This includes handling service related (non-technical) problems and communicating client feedback to the Laboratory leadership.
  9. Responsible for sending out final report to requesting clients via secure access.
  10. Responsible for the accurate and timely ordering of BioTouch sample kits.
  11. Appropriately and effectively communicate lab testing of STAT DSA’s and crossmatches with lab staff during morning meeting and throughout the day as needed.
  12. Maintains and modifies UNOS list for all MTN affiliated transplant centers in conjunction with those centers and the MTN HLA lab.
  13. May participate in phone reception duties as part of the regular reception area coverage schedule.

ADMINISTRATIVE FUNCTIONS

  1. CPA area and Phlebotomy Room supply inventory maintenance.

Qualifications


QUALIFICATIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  1. Associates degree in biological sciences or medical technology.  Undergraduate degree in biological sciences or medical technology or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education or experience is preferred.
  2. Ability to work a minimum of 40 hours per week. 
  3. Must maintain a valid driver’s license in accordance with MTN motor vehicle policy.  Must have reliable personal automobile transportation to be used with company reimbursement using IRS guidelines.  Must be able to travel within the service area by ground or air.
  4. Excellent organization and time management skills; ability to function independently and collaboratively; demonstrated problem-solving and creative thinking skills and well-developed personal stress management skills.
  5. Ability to lift 50 pounds and transfer short distances.
  6. Possess manual dexterity sufficient to operate telephones, computers and surgical equipment.
  7. Ability to speak and communicate clearly in order to accurately convey information in person or by phone.
  8. OSHA Category I – Exposed regularly to bloodborne pathogens while performing assigned job duties.  Bloodborne pathogens protection is required.
  9. Home internet and wireless phone access may be required.
