Responsible for oversight of tissue recovery activity on assigned shift.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

ADMINISTRATION

  • Provides timely feedback to tissue department leadership on employee education and training needs.
  • Supports the Tissue Services leadership team with interviewing qualified Tissue Recovery staff.
  • Conducts huddle with team to ensure work is planned accordingly for shift and reports deviations or issues to Administrator on Call (AOC).
  • Coordinates shift staffing to call in extra assistance or develop plans with AOC in instances of high case activity.

CLINICAL

  • Responsible for clinical oversight of tissue activities, including adherence to strict safety protocols, on assigned shift, as training preceptor and mentor to tissue procurement staff.
  • Responsible for ensuring staff clinical performance is consistent with policies and procedures for the safe recovery of tissues.

TISSUE RECOVERY

  • Ability to perform all aspects of tissue and cornea recovery producing high quality donor tissue.
  • Ensures compliance with FDA, AATB and Processor regulations/standards/SOP’s
  • Strong working knowledge of medical terminology, general anatomy, and disease processes.
  • Identifies and ensures a safe and aseptic work environment in all circumstances.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with internal MTN staff, hospital staff, processing partners, funeral homes and others involved in the donation process.
  • Ability to conduct appropriate face-to-face interactions with donor families, if needed.
  • Working knowledge of the inter-relationships of departments and services provided by MTN.
  • Demonstrated time management skills and ability to prioritize donor case activity and other duties/projects.
  • Participates in departmental growth and improvement activities.
  • Ability to serve as a resource to other departments.
  • Serves as a role model for the MTN B-REAL behavioral competencies by actively supporting, reinforcing, and exhibiting behaviors in alignment with the B-REAL core values.

QUALITY

  • Strong working knowledge of department quality assurance standards, processes, and procedures, including ability to accurately identify and correct paperwork errors and complete staff member training in real time.
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of disease processes and related conditions to properly ensure safe tissue recovery.
  • Provides timely reports to management on any variances in the application of MTN’s department policies and procedures.
  • Ensures the quality assurance of shift huddles with AOC and outgoing shift, guaranteeing the proper case hand-off and continuity for seamless transitions. This includes the documentation of any issues identified.
  • Completes necessary follow-up with TPC’s on designated shift related issues or occurrences.
Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Associates degree in biological sciences or allied health, or equivalent knowledge and skill required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • A minimum of three years of experience as a Tissue Procurement Coordinator. Two years experience as a TPC II preferred.
  • CTBS certification or ability to obtain certification within two test cycles required.
  • Ability to work a minimum of 36 hours per week, participate in rotating holiday on-call schedule and cover at least 2 Saturday shifts every 6 weeks, and may be required to assist with on-call department coverage. Required to work and remain standing for extended periods of time with few breaks.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license in accordance with MTN motor vehicle policy. Must have reliable personal automobile transportation to be used with company reimbursement using IRS guidelines. Must be able to travel within the service area by ground or air.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills; ability to function independently and collaboratively; demonstrated problem-solving and creative thinking skills and well-developed personal stress management skills.
  • Ability to independently lift, move and transfer up to 50 pounds and up to 75 pounds with assistance over short distances.
  • Possess good fine and gross motor dexterity to support the frequent handling and use of surgical instruments during recovery tasks.
  • Possess ability to operate telephones, computers and surgical equipment.
  • Ability to speak and communicate clearly to accurately convey information to donor families, hospital staff and transplant/procurement personnel in person or by phone.
  • OSHA Category I – Exposed regularly to bloodborne pathogens while performing assigned job duties. Bloodborne pathogens protection is required.
  • Home internet and wireless phone access may be required outside of work hours.
