Job Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Utility Locator Supervisor to lead and oversee a team of utility locators responsible for identifying and marking underground utilities before excavation or construction. The Utility Locator Supervisor ensures all work is completed safely, accurately, and in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role combines field leadership, operational oversight, quality control, and client communication.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer all internal 811 requests from PM’s.
  • Supervise, train, and support a team of Utility Locators in the field.
  • Plan daily and weekly workloads, ensuring all tickets and work orders are completed on time.
  • Perform quality control audits and field inspections to ensure accuracy and compliance with standards.
  • Respond to escalated issues, such as damage investigations or high priority locate requests.
  • Ensure team compliance with OSHA, local utility regulations, and company safety policies.
  • Monitor and report team productivity, ticket closeout rates, and damage prevention metrics.
  • Coordinate with contractors, utility companies, municipalities, and internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain proper records and documentation related to locates, training, incidents, and audits.
  • Assist with onboarding and continuous training for new and existing field staff.
  • Support the implementation of new technology, equipment, and best practices.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED; post-secondary education or vocational training preferred.
  • 2 years of experience in utility locating or underground construction.
  • 1 year of supervisory or team lead experience.
  • Strong knowledge of utility locating equipment (GPR, electromagnetic locators, etc.).
  • Familiarity with state 811 laws and utility marking standards (e.g., APWA color codes).
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record.

Preferred:

  • Certifications such as NULCA, OSHA 10/30, or Damage Prevention Specialist.
  • Experience with utility mapping software or GPS/GIS tools.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Outdoor field work in varying weather conditions.
  • Frequent walking, bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs.), and driving.
  • Occasional travel to other job sites or company locations may be required.
