Job Qualifications: At least a master’s degree from an accredited institution, with a major in administration and supervision, and shall hold proper certification for K-12 school principal from the PA Department of Education. At least five years’ teaching experience. Outstanding recommendations and current references. A familiarity with the unique composition of the Mifflinburg Area community. Experienced, practicing administrator preferred. High academic standards.
Reports to: The Building Principal
General Performance Responsibilities:
Assist the principal in the overall administration of the school.
Serve as principal in the absence of the regular principal.
Liaison to student support services – transportation, custodial, cafeteria, audiovisual coordinator and nurse.
Assist in the supervision of classroom instruction.
Assists in maintaining discipline throughout the student body and deals with special cases as necessary.
Perform other duties as may be assigned by the superintendent and the principal.
Attendance for school and represent the school in court truancy through the SAIC Process.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities of the Assistant Principal
Special Assignments:
Administrative representative on the Student Assistance Team (SAT) that deals with student drug and alcohol abuse and suicide prevention.
Supervisory
Supervise the guidance department.
Assist the principal in evaluating the instructional program and the professional staff.
Assist the principal in the various disciplines that are included in the instructional program.
Assist the principal in the supervision and operation of the building.
Supervise the routine collateral duty assignments of teachers; i.e., before and after school assignments, cafeteria assignments; and/or any other routine duties assigned.
Curriculum and Instruction
Assist in special curriculum projects as assigned by the principal.
Assist the principal in developing an appropriate instructional schedule for each student.
Make recommendations to the principal for improving the curriculum.
Community and Public Relations
Assist with the public relations program as directed by the principal for communications concerning student discipline and all co-curricular activities.
Be responsible for routine newspaper publicity and assist the principal in the broader aspects of public relations.
Communicate with parents regarding school policies and student performance when appropriate.
Participate in community programs.
Serve as liaison between visitors to the building and school personnel.
Substitute Teachers
Assist the principal in handling all matters relating to the employment and supervision of daily substitute teachers.
Student Service Responsibilities
Coordinate student activities including clubs, fund raising activities, student government and assemblies, etc.
Assist the principal in the supervision of the intramural and interscholastic athletic program.
Supervise the collection of all outstanding obligations for students.
Assist the principal in the supervision and proper guidance of the students.
Assist the principal in the disciplining of students whose behavior patterns and practices are in violation of the school regulations or all harmful to the morals, safety or reputation of others.
Provide leadership in pupil guidance procedures, drug and alcohol education.
Supervise and administer pupil accounting in the middle school. Work closely with the school secretary and supervise the student accounts.
Professional and Personal Development
The assistant principal shall be responsible for self-improvement and growth on the job through membership in professional organizations, university work, visitations and the reading of professional literature.
Perform other duties as assigned.
