Principal Systems Architect: OS/Kernel/Security/Boot/Firmware
About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Principal Systems Architect to lead the design and implementation of our next-generation system software stack. This role will focus on architecting robust operating system, kernel, security, boot, and firmware solutions that ensure optimal performance, security, and reliability across our hardware platforms. The ideal candidate will drive innovation in system architecture while maintaining compatibility with industry standards.
Main Responsibilities:
- Design and architect high-performance, secure system software components including kernel subsystems, boot loaders, and firmware interfaces
- Lead development of security-focused architecture ensuring data protection, secure boot, and hardware-based security features
- Optimize system performance for low-latency, deterministic operations across heterogeneous computing environments
- Collaborate with hardware teams to co-design features that maximize platform capabilities
- Develop and implement power management strategies for efficient resource utilization
- Take ownership of system architecture validation, compatibility testing, and performance optimization
- Stay current with emerging technologies in system security, virtualization, and kernel design
- Define system architecture specifications and implementation guidelines for engineering teams
Requirements:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field
- 15 years of experience in system software architecture with focus on OS kernel, firmware, or security
- Expert-level proficiency in C programming with strong knowledge of low-level systems programming
- Deep understanding of computer architecture principles and system-level optimization
- Extensive knowledge of PCIe architecture and discrete device integration
- Extensive experience with secure boot implementations, TPM, and hardware security modules
- Strong background in operating system internals, device drivers, and interrupt handling
- Experience with one or more of: Linux kernel, UEFI, coreboot, hypervisors, embedded RTOS, PCIe device drivers
- Proven track record of designing robust system architectures for production environments
- Strong problem-solving skills for complex, low-level system challenges
- Excellent communication skills for technical discussions and documentation
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with hardware verification and validation methodologies
- Contributions to open-source projects in OS, kernel, or firmware domains
- Familiarity with formal verification techniques for security-critical components
- Experience with trusted execution environments and secure enclaves
- Knowledge of virtualization techniques and container security
