Job Description: Construction Purchasing Clerk
Position Summary: The Construction Purchasing Clerk is responsible for supporting the procurement process within a construction environment. This role involves sourcing materials, managing vendor relationships, processing purchase orders, and maintaining inventory records to ensure timely and cost-effective procurement of supplies and equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Vendor Management: Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring quality and timely delivery of materials.
- Purchase Order Processing: Prepare and process purchase orders, ensuring accuracy in specifications, quantities, and pricing.
- Material Procurement: Coordinate with project managers to ensure that materials are available when needed.
- Cost Management: Assist in evaluating vendor pricing and negotiate terms to achieve cost savings while maintaining quality standards.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of purchases, invoices, and vendor agreements. Update databases and filing systems as necessary.
- Compliance: Ensure all purchasing activities comply with company policies and industry regulations.
- Reporting: Generate regular reports on procurement activities, order status, and budget compliance for management review.
- Communication: Collaborate with project teams to understand material requirements and deadlines, providing support as needed.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; degree in business administration, supply chain management, or a related field preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain management, preferably in the construction industry.
- Skills:
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and purchasing software.
- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in an office environment and occasionally on construction sites.
- Ability to lift materials up to 50lbs.
Working Conditions:
- Office setting with occasional site visits.
- May require extended hours to meet project deadlines.
Reports To: Office management.
