About the Role
We’re seeking an experienced Director of Purchasing to drive strategy, improve purchasing operations, and ensure that our retail stores and e-commerce platforms have the right products at the right time. This role requires a strong communicator and leader who can balance financial planning, data-driven decision-making, and marketplace awareness while streamlining operations and strengthening internal collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
Lead Purchasing as a Central Function – Establish purchasing as a key driver of operational success across the company.
Cross-Department Collaboration – Work closely with sales, retail, and operations teams to align purchasing strategies with company goals.
Data-Driven Decision-Making – Leverage analytics and dashboards to optimize inventory, reduce shortages, and prevent overstock.
Budgeting & Open-to-Buy Management – Coordinate with CFO and company leadership to oversee financial planning to ensure efficient purchasing within budget constraints.
Forecasting & Inventory Optimization – Utilize sales forecasting to anticipate demand trends and adjust stocking levels accordingly, ensuring optimal inventory turns. Maintain a proactive approach to slow-moving inventory while managing total OH inventory value to align with business goals.
Improve Online & Retail Fulfillment – With a commitment to continuous improvement, understand the challenges faced by both e-commerce and brick-and-mortar retail to improve in-store management.
Streamline Reordering & Restocking – Enhance efficiency in purchasing processes to prevent stockouts of top-selling SKUs.
Future-Focused Improvements – Implement automation, assess NetSuite integration, and refine purchasing workflows.
What We’re Looking For
Strong Leadership & Communication Skills – Ability to align teams, drive strategy, and foster collaboration.
Retail Experience Preferred – A deep understanding of retail purchasing is more valuable than industry-specific experience.
Proven Experience in Budgeting & Forecasting – Skilled in open-to-buy management, demand planning, and financial oversight.
Strategic & Data-Oriented Mindset – Ability to use data and technology to improve purchasing decisions.
Process Improvement & Problem-Solving Skills – Experience in streamlining operations, enhancing efficiencies, and reducing bottlenecks.
Technology & System Integration Knowledge – Experience with ERP systems, dashboarding tools, and automation.
Results-Driven & Performance-Oriented – Sets clear goals, creates action plans, and adheres to timelines. Leverages data, problem-solving, and continuous improvement to drive outcomes. Prioritizes impact, accountability, and excellence in achieving business objectives.
Bonus: If you’ve worked with NetSuite, LightSpeed, or other retail-focused inventory systems, that’s a plus!
