- Perform software system safety analyses IAW MIL-STD-882E and Joint Software System Safety Engineering Handbook , focusing on the identification and mitigation of hazards related to software in submarine combat and weapons systems
- Lead and contribute to Hazard Analyses (PHA, SHA, SSHA, O&SHA) with an emphasis on software behavior in fault and edge conditions
- Develop and maintain Software Safety Assessments (SSA) , Safety Verification Plans , Test Reports , and Safety Case Reports
- Support interface control documentation , ensuring integration of software with navigation, fire control, weapons launch, and sensor systems adheres to safety requirements
- Review and validate software architecture and design artifacts for safety-critical behavior and potential failure modes
- Collaborate with systems, software, hardware, and test engineers to establish safety requirements , traceability, and mitigation strategies
- Ensure compliance with Navy cybersecurity and Risk Management Framework (RMF) safety-related controls as applicable
- U.S. Citizenship required ; must have or be able to obtain an active DoD Secret security clearance
- Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline
- 3 years of experience in software or system safety engineering on DoD platforms
- Working knowledge of MIL-STD-882E , Navy SSPs , and combat/weapons system integration
- Familiarity with real-time embedded software , safety-critical control systems, and naval combat system architecture Strong analytical, technical writing, and communication skills
- Experience with submarine combat systems , fire control , Tactical Tomahawk , Mk 48 ADCAP torpedoes , or other underwater weapons platforms
- Experience using safety analysis tools, or formal methods in safety
- Working knowledge of Navy-specific platforms such as AN/BYG-1 , A-RCI , or VPM
- Experience with Navy development environments and test facilities
- Certification in system safety or functional safety (e.g., TÜV, CSSLP)
Department of Defense Secret Security Clearance or higher is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
