What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lab Technician position at Mikes Camera Inc?
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The Lab Technician has overall responsibility and accountability for developing and printing rolls of film, reprints, digital files, as well as scanning photos and other services performed on mini-lab machines to the customers satisfaction in a timely and efficient manner. All duties will be performed in a safe manner. Lab technicians must be quality conscious at all times and strive to deliver the best finished product to Mikes Camera customers.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist management in determining appropriate priorities and course of actions necessary in order to accomplish the goals of the Company.
Perform duties associated with film processing, photo printing and quality check and packaging station tasks.
Understanding of digital file formats and the ability to print and process them correctly.
Good understanding of color management and the ability to recognize color adjustments needed.
Scan and archive photos, negatives and slides and handle originals with care.
Able and willing to cross-train in all lab production tasks.
Maintain a professional demeanor in business relations including customers, fellow employees and management.
Understand and be able and willing to assist customers and employees with online and kiosk print and photo product ordering.
Price all photo-finishing orders accurately and in an efficient and timely manner.
Consistently maintain quality and production standards on all customer orders.
Consistently follow all safety procedures as outlined in the required safety training class and operation manual.
Perform required maintenance and cleaning duties as directed by management.
Assist customer service representatives (IPS) in locating customer orders.
Maintain a clean and well-organized lab environment.
Continuously update knowledge on current and new products as well as techniques available in the industry.
Insure that all customer transactions and concerns are handled professionally and that all issues are resolved in the best interest of both the customer and the company.
Assist in the enforcement of internal security policies as well as managing to a goal of zero loss.
Report to management the status of operations.
Any other duties assigned.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
Reports to the Production Manager or Lead / Coordinator.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time and work in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
Must be physically capable of moving, lifting, pulling or pushing 35 lbs. several times a day.
Sufficient eyesight for determining color, density, quality and for performing the detail tasks of photo-finishing.
Ability to work around chemicals and odors related to film developing.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
A minimum of a high school or equivalent degree. Specialized classes or formal education in photography and/or photo-finishing highly desirable.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Basic photographic/photo-finishing knowledge obtained through specialized classes or hands-on mini-lab operations preferred.
Strong interpersonal and communications skills with the ability to interact with people at all levels.
