Job Title: Bookkeeper
Location: Cape Girardeau office and remote location
Reports To: Michael Ketcherside (Owner)
Job Overview:
The bookkeeper will manage and maintain accurate financial records for Mike’s Mowing. We are a company that focuses primarily on the mowing, trimming and cleanup of residential, commercial, and government properties in Cape Girardeau, Missouri
The ideal candidate will be responsible for processing financial transactions (entering expenses into QB), managing accounts payable and receivable, reconciling bank statements, payroll, and other related tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accounts Payable: Process and manage vendor invoices, ensuring timely payments, and maintaining positive relationships with suppliers.
- Accounts Receivable: Monitor client payments, generate and send invoices, follow up on overdue accounts, and ensure collections are processed efficiently.
- Bank Reconciliation: Reconcile bank statements and credit card transactions, ensuring accuracy and timely posting to the company’s accounting software.
- Weekly Payroll: Transfer payroll information from Homebase to QuickBooks Payroll
- Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and other key performance indicators (KPIs) for management.
- Data Entry: Ensure accurate and timely data entry of financial transactions into accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks Online, Trello).
- Trello (Transfer information from the production app we use to track our in-field production and client notes. This information must be entered into QuickBooks and the properties reset for next service)
- Tax Preparation Support: Assist with preparation of tax filings, ensuring accurate record-keeping for all business expenses and revenue.
- Compliance: Maintain accurate records in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including payroll taxes and sales tax. (E-Verify)
- Other Duties: Assist with financial analysis, budgeting, and other administrative tasks as needed.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a bookkeeper, accounting assistant, or similar role (landscaping or construction industry experience a plus).
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and financial reporting.
- Proficient in accounting software (QuickBooks, or similar tools).
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
- Knowledge of payroll processing and tax compliance.
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in bookkeeping or accounting roles.
- Experience in the landscaping or construction industry is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in an office setting for extended periods.
- May require occasional visits to job sites or outdoor locations.
